Colossal Castle Contest II: Last Minute Tips
CC Contest Team 29 XII 04

The Colossal Castle Contest II is nearly over. Here are a few tips for everyone to keep in mind:

The contest ends at 11:59 PM Eastern Time in the USA (which is 5 hours behind GMT) on December 31st, 2004. Shortly thereafter the Submit an Entry page will be taken down.

Admins will begin grading the entries. Check for information on the rules page. The large number of entries are exceeding last year's! Thank you for building. We hope to finish grading and announce the winners by January 16th but the grading time may have to be extended due to the number of entries.

Make sure to read the contest rules and follow them completely or your entry will be disqualified. Common submission errors include: using images larger than 800x600 pixels, having more than three images in your entry folder, and missing/broken links to photos and thumbnails. Please read the last post on the first page of this thread about how to properly post brickshelf thumbnail links, as many members are not doing this properly.

Check your email to see if a contest admin has contacted you to make corrections. In addition, we have created a list of cc members and their entries that need to be fixed. Once your errors are fixed, we will remove your name from the list and add your entry to a contest category page. All errors must be fixed no later than Friday January 7th. After this date they will be deleted from our database. If you have any questions feel free to send a PM to Ben or Lenny.

Weekly Set Review: Blacksmith Shop
Ben E. 25 XII 04

Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!

This week’s set is 3739 Blacksmith Shop.

Blacksmith Shop was released in 2002 by LEGO. It was originally a custom set designed by Daniel Siskind in 2000. LEGO purchased the rights and made the Blacksmith Shop the first set in their "My Own Creation" line of fan designed sets. The lower floor of the shop contains an anvil, tool rack, fireplace, and stairs while the upper living space has a bed, table and chair, and a keg. A Blacksmith and his wife are included along with various accessories.

Gryphon
Bruce N. H. 22 XII 04

If you press Kevin Heckel (aka seguejones), he might admit that he started off with a clone band set that was a gift from his grandmother. He soon got a real LEGO set, 6673 Solo Trainer, though, and then moved on to Space, Pirates, and Castle. Most of his building is actually between themes, as he draws inspiration from video games like Final Fantasy, anime, and Steampunk. Final Fantasy was his original inspiration for this MOC. He initially wanted to make a chocobo and built one in white. The feet and head designs led, ultimately, to his gryphon, which he has entered in the Beast category of the Colossal Castle Contest II

Kevin is a member of CoLUG, occasionally posts on Lugnet, and his MOCs can be found in his Brickshelf gallery. He has just recently joined our forums under the username Jonesy. Check out all of the great entries by Kevin and other builders in our Colossal Castle Contest II.

Huw Millington of www.brickset.com has posted images of a 2005 Knight's Kingdom II Pamphlet which was in a set he purchased. Check out these five new sets including multiple seige weapons and a fortress for Vladek.

Classic-Castle is working with LEGO to get larger high quality preview images of these sets like we did last year. When the images become available, we will post an new article.

This week’s set is 6046 Hemlock Stronghold.

Hemlock Stronghold was released in 1996 for the Dark Forest. This rock and tree fortress has a well, two catapults, a treasure cart, and a jail holding a skeleton. Two Royal Knight soldiers, two forestmen, and various accessories are included. This set had a limited release in Europe and was not pictured in many catalogs.

Events Section Update
Ben E. 18 XII 04

A new Events homepage has been created. This page includes image and text links to the four Events sections: Gaming, Displays, Contests, and Calendar. It also has several frequently asked questions on the page. The Displays and Calendar sections are still in development.

Do not hesitate to get involved. If you are participating in a LEGO Castle event, let us know!

Knight's Home
Bruce N. H. 14 XII 04

Maciej Koszyka (aka Piglet, aka Ciamek) has been building Castle LEGO since he received Twin Arm Launcher as a seven year old. Fifteen years later he builds in various themes, as you can see on his website (or, if you don't want to navigate through a Polish language site, check out his Brickshelf gallery). He's built this Knight's Home, which he's entered in the Colossal Castle Contest. He doesn't post in our forums, but does post Lugpol, a Polish AFOL site under the name Ciamek.

Check out all of the great entries by Maciej and other builders in our Colossal Castle Contest.

Weekly Set Review: Jousting Knights
Ben E. 11 XII 04

Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!

This week’s set is 6021 Jousting Knights.

Jousting Knights, released in 1984, was the second LEGO castle joust set. It has two knights on horseback armed with swords, multiple lances, triangular shields and round shields.

Demon Rider
Bruce N. H. 8 XII 04

Canadian AFOL Michael Munshaw has been building LEGO for years. His first set ever was the Forestman's River Fortress, and that got him hooked. For the following years he always asked for LEGO for gifts, focusing on Castle and Space, but eventually shifting completely to Castle and fantasy building. He's relatively new to the AFOL community, though, only recently setting up a Brickshelf gallery and a MOCpage. Check them out and you can see that he already has a backlog of great Castle-themed creations, including the Demon Rider shown above, a griffon, a golem, a medieval town, and several others. I'm looking forward to seeing where his MOCs go as he interacts with other castle builders and trades inspiration. He's recently joined our forums under the name KingKastle. Go on over and welcome him aboard and then discuss his recent MOCs.
