The Misfits of Dametreos II

Chapter 6: The Elk And The Bull

Fraun was now being very careful. He couldn’t afford another run-in with a dragon. The Dragon Masters would soon find the dead body of the dragon and would be looking for any strangers. This was a dangerous mission, he had to find out the reason for the Dragon Masters attacks on the Crusaders. Although he was not very fond of the Crusaders he felt there was a bigger picture to the attacks, and he planned on finding that bigger picture.
Fraun was now nearing the gates of the Dragon Master fortress of Grolling. He spotted two guards at the gates and pondered on how he would dispose of them, with his sword or with his bow. He decided the bow would cause less commotion. Before the guards touched the ground they were not breathing.
Fraun silently sneaked past the gate and into the courtyard. He then entered into the innards of the fortress not knowing what was ahead. He had been walking up steps for about twenty minutes now without meeting any obstacles. He was just about to give up and turn back when he came to a door. Voices were coming from behind it and he pushed it open, hoping it wouldn't creak. He saw were two Dragon Master guards standing at full attention. He now could hear the voices clearly a gruff voice was saying,
“Breck and his forces are moving in on the fortress sir.”
Another smoother voice said, “Good, we shall be ready to intercept them. Ready your troops.”
Gruff replied with a “Yes sir.”
Interesting. Good old Breck is planning on attacking the Dragon Masters and they know he is going to. This should get good.
Fraun smiled to himself. “I should like to find out who Smooth and Gruff are.”
He turned to leave and came face to face with four armed guards. The led him to Gruff and two other men.
       “State your name and business.”
       Fraun didn't answer.
“Fine. Have it your way.” he told Fraun, “But you won’t be leaving until you talk. Off to the dungeon with him.” Gruff ordered the guards.
Fraun was led deep into the heart of the fortress were they put him in a deep stinking pit with a latch door and a grate to let some light in at the top. Then the guards threw him into it. After his eyes got used to the semi-darkness he found that he was not the only one in there.
“Hello,” said the other prisoner. “How did you get stuck here?”
       “Got caught spying, you?”
“Got caught trespassing.” answered the prisoner, “Been here eight years.”
As he said this he moved into the light, Fraun saw the Bull Knight symbol on the prisoner’s chest.
“Let's stat with names. Mine’s Dordrot.” said the Bull Knight.
“And mine is Fraun.” replied Fraun.
“Well... my adventure began when the Falcons started attacking our villages. The King told me to ride with full haste to the Black Knight King and ask for 1,000 fully armed knights. They agreed to only 500 men. I was riding toward the castle ahead of the knights when I met a Falcon platoon. They shot at me and I fled to the top of a nearby hill were I looked upon the destruction the Falcons had wrought upon our land. Then I came to the Dragon Masters thinking the might help. But alas, they took me prisoner not wanting conflict with the Falcons.”
“Wow.” said Fraun. “I knew the Falcons were cunning but not cruel and cool-hearted.”
“Now you do know. Will you join our cause?”
       “Ummm...what cause might this be?”
“Why, to get out of here and restore the Bull Kingdom.”
“First let’s get out of here, then I’ll think about restoring the Bull Kingdom. Any ideas on getting out?”
       “Actually I don’t.” said Dordrot. “I thou-”
“You two shut up down there.” shouted a guard.
“I thought you might have an idea.” finished Dordrot quietly.
       “No, I don't.”
“Well, then we can only hope for some luck. If we could only be transported then we could have a chance to escape.”
“Alright. You two are going to be executed.” shouted a guard.
The prisoners were taken to the gruff voiced man and asked for their names and business. Neither said a word.
“Fine. Execute them. No, let them battle our dragon with nothing but their hands.” smiled Gruff, “It will be a nice show for Grundark.”
The prisoners were led out through many corridors and into an arena, were they saw a great dragon about twelve feet tall and twenty feet long.
“Well, it was nice knowing you…” said Fraun.
“Hey! You're not giving up are you?” replied Dordrot venomously, “You said that you would get out of the dungeon. Well you did and it’s time to kick some dragon behind!”
       “With what?” asked Fraun.
“Well, with these!” exclaimed Dordrot, punching the two guards that were leading them and taking their spears.
“Okay, now we can kick dragon behind!” shouted Fraun.
Just then the dragon rushed at them and shot fire at them. Fraun managed to dodge the fire but Dordrot wasn’t so lucky. His leg was burnt pretty badly. Then Fraun, seeing his friend go down in pain, rushed at the dragon and plunged the spear deep into the dragon's foot. The dragon roared with pain, kicking Fraun to the other side of the arena. Fraun blacked out.
Dordrot lunged at the dragon’s throat, feeling pain in his left leg. The dragon dodged the spear and swung his tail at Dordrot. Dordrot ducked but the tail grazed his forehead. He lost his balance but quickly regained it. Again he ran at the dragon, but this time instead of going for the throat flung the spear into the dragon's chest. This caught the dragon off guard. It stumbled. The dragon was getting ready to put forth a burst of flame when it fell. And there was Fraun, his spear sticking in the dragon's back.
       “Nice one!” said Dordrot.
“Thank you,” replied Fraun. “I pride my self in dragon slaying. That’s two in one week.”
Suddenly arrows were whizzing past their heads.
“Let's leave this party,” said Fraun.
“Fine with me. It was getting a little to crowded for my liking anyways…”
The two zigzagged their way to the gate which the quickly knocked down. Then they ran and were confronted by a battalion of Dragon Masters they battled and the two came out victorious. They both grabbed some weapons, Fraun a bow and arrows and Dordrot an axe. They climbed their way to the battlement and battled more guards. Then they jumped down to the ground and ran into the forest.

The two friends had been traveling for a week now, avoiding all towns. By now they were quit downhearted and moody.
“Well.” stated Fraun, “Where would you like to go now, through Classic LEGOland or Royal Knights land to get to my men?”
“What land did you go through before?” asked Dordrot.
       “Royal Knights. Why?”
“Well, they would likely be more hostile towards you since you have been there and they know you.” said Dordrot with a grin.
“Come to think of it, I was run out of one of their towns.”
“Then LEGOland it is.” said Dordrot.
So the travelers went on their way. When they were about to cross into LEGOland, a knight stopped them and told them to tell him their names. They stated them and were allowed to pass. After a three-day trek they came to a town. There they found a place to sleep and eat. After having had a filling dinner the two went upstairs to sleep.
“That was the best meal I’ve had in eight years.” said Dordrot.
“Best meal I've had in eight months.” replied Fraun.
“Well we better hit the sack and get up early tomorrow.”
“Indeed.” said Fraun, “We are only a weeks journey from my men’s camp. Then you will have some great food. Our cooks the best. He’s fat and plump and…”
“Tell me when we are on the road.” said Dordrot. “I want to get some sleep.”
And so the two went to bed and got up the next morning, got dressed, ate breakfast, and went on their way. Eight days later they arrived in Forestmen territory. When they arrived at the camp they were greeted warmly. While they were eating Hodge’s dinner, Fraun was told by his right hand man Svaun that the Wolfpack members and some mercenaries were moving in on Hemlock Fortress of the Dark Forest.
“Strange news.” said Fraun, “Willem is not the type to hire mercenaries.”
“Oh, but he’s not the one who is leading them, Defoe Grimtongue is,” Jerlock replied.
“Ahh....Defoe. That lousy good for nothing piece of megablock! Ready the men. We ride to Hemlock at dawn.”
?
They had been traveling for two days and had seen or heard nothing but the birds in the trees and crickets during the night. And they still had two more days to go.
“I just can’t wait o see the face of Radjar when he sees the troops I have brought.” said Fraun, “Especially since the Forestmen are on friendly terms with the Wolfpack. But I just can't stand Defoe.”
Just then Dordrot rode up to him and said, “You said that after we got out that dungeon that you would help restore the Bull Kingdom.”
“I said after. I never said how long after.” Fraun said in jest.
Dordrot smiled and commented, “But right now we have to destroy the Wolfpack army. Right?”
       “Right, my friend.”
They kept traveling till nightfall. Then they had one of Hodge's fantastic suppers and rested.
