The Misfits of Dametreos II

Chapter 12: The Dark Lights

The Dark Lights were in a small Black Knight town. Jones and his group were on their way to kill a man. The warlord that was challenging Snikular, Lord Minas, had settled over on this island, and Lord Snikular would pay the Dark Lights a lot of money to see the challenging lord eliminated. Jones was at the entrance of the Mansion of Minas noting the many guards guarded the gates. The rest group sneaked around the walls, waiting for an opportunity.
       “Chen!” Jones hissed.
       “Boss?” Chen answered quickly,
       “Now!” Jones whispered.
Chen stood and pulled out his scimitar and shot over to the guards, he was lightning fast, and made short work of the guards. The group hid the bodies in a nearby bush and Koilo took out a bottle with a black powder in it. Jones had bought this powder from an adventurer named Aros. It was able to explode any lock, silently. Jones poured a small bit of powder and waited for the silent blast. A small crack sounded and the gate swung open. They were in.
Jones and the group sneaked into the mansion. They kept to the shadows, making sure they were not caught. The group came to the armory; swords, spears and shields covered the walls. Chen stopped to look at the beauty of the weapons and armor, but was dragged along by Koilo. The group stopped at the Warlords quarters, they would have to act quickly and swiftly. Donkey used a spell to click the door open. The group entered, and Jones easily disposed of the warlord with a stab through his neck. A loud bell began to sound, and Jones heard voices shouting.
       “INTRUDER!!!”
       “Ohhh Megabloks…”
Five armed guards came through the door as all of the Dark Lights drew their weapons. Mushofio threw his spear at the knight that was closest; the spear ripped through the knight’s armor, felling him immediately. Mushofio rushed forward and pulled the spear from his victim as Rembus pulled a small cutlass out and charged one of the knights. Rembus knocked the axe out of the knight’s hand and shoved the cutlass into the knight's mid section. Chen was jumping around the room, beheaded a knight with ease. Donkey cast a spell on the last remaining knight.
“Porento!” he shouted and a green light burst out of his sword. The knight died before he hit the floor. More knights were coming.
“Up here!” Jones shouted, pointing to the window, he drew his dual swords and smashed the window open. Jones, Mushofio, Chen, Donkey and Rembus were out. Koilo ran to the window and began to climb out, but his pack was stuck. The knights let loose a volley of arrows and Koilo fell from the window, sixteen arrows in his back. The group stared in disbelief.
“KOILO!!” Donkey shouted, but Jones grabbed him and held him back. Another volley whizzed through the sky. The group ran.

At their hideout in the Black Knight isles, the Dark Lights mourned for their dead comrade. Why? Why did he have to die?
“Sir, Black Knights a conducting a search of all the warehouses in this area... they are two doors away…” Donkey said to Jones.
Jones jumped up and drew his dual swords, determined get revenge for the death of his close friend by facing his enemies head on.
Mushofio held Jones back, “You can’t, they will kill you! We will avenge Koilo, but not like this!”
The Dark Lights drew their weapons, ready to ambush the troops. All the Dark Lights watched Jones for the signal. Suddenly, he swung his arm down. The group acted immediately. They leaped out at the knights, and in ten seconds, it was over. The group took all the money the knights had, and escaped town.

Jones and the gang had a purpose now. The group had news of a small war waging, and in wars, there was always money to be gained. The group had ‘borrowed’ a group of horses, as it was going to be a long ride.
       “Um... Jones, where are we?”
Jones looked around. They had been traveling towards Hemlock, but Jones and the Dark Lights had never been to the Hemlock Fortress.
“Well, well...if it isn’t Jones Arley.” a voice sneered from the trees.
Remorsa emerged. Heavy iron armor hung limply on his body, and a sword in his hand. His long dark hair covered the old war wounds of his face. But then, some one totally unexpected emerged from the trees.
“Hahahahaha!” the familiar voice cackled. Koilo stood there, behind Remorsa.
“Koilo!!” Jones shouted. He did not know whether to be pleased or angry. Koilo, one of Jones’ comrades, was standing behind Jones’ greatest rival.
       “Koilo, Koilo, Koilo.…” Remorsa muttered.
“You, shut it!” Koilo shouted at Remorsa. Jones stood there stupidly.
“There was no need for it…” Remorsa softly screamed at Koilo, “You killed my comrade, for gain on your part. Why did Yunan have to die? So you could take his money, and pay me, with that money, to hunt down Jones. I don’t like Jones. But, you pretended to be killed... and now you want him dead…”
       “Why Koilo?” Jones asked.
“Hahahaha...you were always the leader Jones. You had to tell us where to go. I was jealous. I took all your money, and paid the Black Falcons to ‘kill me’.”
A group of Black Falcons emerged from the trees.
Koilo continued, “I wanted you dead. and, the only person who may have a chance of killing you was Remorsa and his mercenaries. I used you both!!” Koilo laughed.
Remorsa’s eye twitched slowly. Out of nowhere five people appeared, Remorsa’s men. They all drew their weapons. Then, in a move that shocked Remorsa, went to Koilo’s side.
       “What??” Remorsa cried in disgust.
“Hahaha...it’s the same. We were jealous! Yunan had to die, because he would never stop believing in you. He just had to die. Hahahaha...and now, you and Jones are going to die!!” a member of the mercenaries cried.
Jones looked up. One of Remorsa's men, named Nilo, winked suddenly at Jones’s direction. He looked at Donkey. He winked back. Jones moved his hand to his sword, very slowly, and silently.
“NOW!!” Nilo shouted, Donkey drew his spear, and attempted to strike Jones down. Jones, knowing what was happening, swiftly drew his own weapon, and blocked the spear. All megabloks broke loose. Remorsa leapt at the mercenaries and the Black Falcons. He easily beheaded a Black Falcon, and plunged his sword into the heart of another. After a series of assaults upon the Black Falcons, Remorsa had easily all of them. He looked at the mercenaries. He had loved these men. But now... he jumped at the nearest mercenary. He sliced quickly, but the blow got parried.
Jones had been parrying the blows of the Dark Lights. He jumped out of the way of a slash from Mushofio and then pushed Donkey to the floor.
“Come on!!!” Koilo shouted, the mercenaries and the Dark Lights ran behind Koilo into the trees.
The two greatest nemeses were standing there, face to face. They readied their swords. Jones looked into the eyes of Remorsa. This was his biggest rival, and they were going to duel.
Jones struck first, he lunged forward, slashing. Remorsa ripped his sword through the air, almost tearing the wind itself. His heavy armor clunked as he moved. He easily parried Jones' strike. The two started dueling intensely. Every blow was blocked, every swing was parried. Then, three things happened all at once. Jones swung, but slipped and stumbled. Remorsa dodged the swing with ease, and pointed his long sword at Jone's chest, swinging his long dark hair out of his eyes.
Then there was a pop. A wizard stood there, out of nowhere. His presence was amazing. A sword hung at his side, in a sheath. A wand was also stuck in his belt. He had a large wizards hat, and a long beard. Remorsa looked at the wizard and smirked.
       “Well, hello…” Remorsa laughed.
He lowered his sword from Jones’ chest and kicked Jones where the sword had been
“And what might you want?” Remorsa growled at the wizard.
“Have you seen a man with four companions? One has a severed ear, and is a Forestman. The other two are from the Wolfpack, quite unique. There is a Bull and a Black Falcon also, an odd company…” Daner asked quietly.
“Well... heheheh.... I saw a man fitting your description of the Forestmen, he was with two companions of the Wolfpack realm. They headed off hurriedly....why? They steal your magic toad? Hahahaha!” Remorsa laughed.
“Its too late... they know I am here.…” Daner muttered to himself, “Can you feel the wind?” Daner asked Remorsa.
       Remorsa put his hand out.
       “Um... No.” Remorsa said.
“Wind Riders. And by the tremors in the ground, Deathers…” Daner muttered again.
A terrible howl burst out that made Remorsa’s bones tremble. Then, they could be seen. The Wind Riders were fast. Hoods and cloaks covered them, and they seemed to glide along the wind, hence the name. The Deathers were cumbersome creatures. They had heavy black armor on, and black full helms. There were three of each.
“Jones!! Get up!!” Remorsa shouted at his fallen rival. The smirk from Remorsa’s face had vanished. Jones began to stand groggily. Remorsa handed him his sword. They, for the first time, were fighting as comrades.
One of the creatures let out a ghastly howl. Daner fired a blast of magic into the crowd of evil. It momentarily stopped them, but they came back to there normal speed. The first Deather came, and drew a long black sword. It headed for Jones. But, before it could reach Jones, its head was rolling along the ground, Remorsa had cut its head off. The three readied their weapons. After a quick five minutes, the battle was over, and a pool of black blood was on the floor.
“Well, wizard.... can you explain?” Remorsa asked.
After Daner had related the whole epic to the two mercenary leaders, Jones and Remorsa looked bewilderedly at Daner.
“Now, we must go!” Daner said, and with a flick of a hand, the three were standing in the Plains Of Magic.
“Arrgggghhhh!!!” Remorsa shouted, for he did not know where he was.
“I have seen it. A great army will amass...Lord Void’s cruel minions...Defoe...he will join the evil…” Daner trailed off.
Then a flash shocked Remorsa and Jones, and the two fell to the bloodstained ground. Dark Foresters lay on the ground, in pools of their own blood.
“Valus!!” Radjar shouted, he was weeping terribly. The two mercenaries stood.
Daner was already standing next to Radjar.
“It is always sad to loose a comrade, Radjar…” Daner said.
Radjar was way too distraught to wonder where this wizard had suddenly popped from and how he knew his name.
“Is there anybody by the name of Willem Blackcloak around here?” Daner asked slowly.
“That bandit!! His comrade, Defoe, he killed Valus!!” Radjar screamed
“We have sent out scouts, by the names of Fraun and Trevelayn. If he is around here, they will know about it.” Gereld explained to Daner.
“You two, wait here.” Daner motioned to Remorsa and Jones.
“A war will amass... Radjar, be ready... be strong.” Daner said, and in a wisp, he was gone.
