The BloodVaine EpicChapter 4: Witness To Slaughter
Aros stood at the outskirts of a Crusader port city. The sun was sinking in the sky, and he wondered if Bjarn, the leader of the League of Forestmen, could see the same sun set.
Alex, Aros’ companion, walked forward, and looked around.
“Georn!” Alex shouted and he ran forward to an old soldier friend.
“Alex! Begone! You are a wanted man!” Georn shouted back.
“But this is my home town...I cannot be forced out!” Alex cried in disbelief.
“Then I am sorry I have to do this Alex…”
Georn replied and prepared to alert the Crusader troops.
“You won’t want to do that…” replied someone, and knocked Georn out with the hilt of a sword. Aros, Alex and Luxus stared in disbelief. It was Reno.
“Reno!” cried Aros, “How’d you get here!?!”
“Long story…” murmured Reno, “The tyco Dragon Masters kidnapped me…it took me weeks to walk back here. I was just about hire a ship to return to Fell Isle and find you all.
Aros, Alex and Luxus glanced at one another
“Reno...what happened between you and Dale?” Aros asked.
“Nothing...where is Dale?” Reno asked quizzically.
“Reno...he’s... dead…” Aros looked at the ground.
“What? Where’s Bjarn, Graygon, Shainya, Rosa!?” Reno screamed.
“They all think…you killed Dale…’ Aros said, still looking at the ground.
“Well…” Reno let out a horrible scream, “I didn’t do it!”
“We know…” Luxus muttered.
Reno pushed away from them, shocked that Dale had died and even more shocked the his friends, Bjarn, Graygon, Shainya, Rosa, thought that he did it. He looked forward into the town and stopped.
“Megablocks.”
Aros and Luxus jumped up to the crate, and looked forward totally gobsmacked. On the ground were at least thirty crusaders, all dead. The ground was a crimson red.
“You there!" Reno shouted at a sole remaining Crusader standing amid the carnage.
Suddenly, a large blade appeared through the Crusander’s midsection, and he fell to the group in a pool of blood. Behind him was a tall and slender man. He had deep blue eyes, and pale skin. Long black robes slightly covered his plate armor, and a black cloak lay down his back limply.
Aros, Reno and Ales drew their swords quickly and stepped in front of Luxus.
The black figure began to laugh insanely and he leapt up into the sky.
“Bahamut!!! COME UNTO ME!!” he screamed. His voice was dark and cold.
There was a sickening scream, the shoreline erupted. Out came a magnificent black dragon, with a crown of bones around its head. In his gigantic claws, he held a blade of pure dragonstone. Huge black, spiked wings covered the sun, so as the whole port was in shadow.
Bahamut let out another terrible scream, and hovered above the dead Crusaders. The black figure jumped on the back of Bahamut, and the black dragon flew off, without a backwards glance.
Reno, Aros, Alex and Luxus sat at the bar of an inn in the ghost Crusader town while bodies outside began to decompose. The normal act of sipping beer calmed the three men and boy just a little.
“Reno, when can we see Bjarn again? And Graygon, and Rosa, and Shainya?” Luxus asked.
Aros looked on and sighed.
“We won’t be seeing them for a long while...Luxus, go over there and get me another beer please.” Aros muttered.
Luxus walked off to get a beer.
“I can’t see how they think I killed Dale.” muttered Reno helplessly.
“Your sword was found at the scene. Dale was impaled by it." Aros explained.
Megablocks Majisto... Reno thought to himself.
Luxus walked back with a beer in his hand.
“Luxus...Aros...Alex…we will go and see our friends now…and tell them the truth.” Reno said suddenly, standing up.
Reno stepped out of the battered inn and onto the wooden port. The sun was sinking in the sky, and a boat could be seen silhouetted against it. Reno looked at the dead corpses of the Crusaders, the ones that were brutally slain by the black figure. A wind whipped a piece of parchment into the air, and it landed next to Aros’s feet. he picked it up and read it. It was a small notice showing that a Forestman named Bjarn was recently crowned leader of the League of Forestmen.
Reno gasped, “Bjarn’s king now?"
Aros nodded.
Reno smiled and said, “Aros, you’ve traveled more than me. Lead us to the Forestmen!”
