The BloodVaine EpicChapter 24: Wandering Walf
Alex Funt wasn’t at Drullen Bell Keep. He was sitting now, with his back against a tree, looking out over crusader land. Bjarn had given strict instructions that no one should leave but Alex didn't care. He needed some time to think. Word had reached him of the troubles at home. The massacre at Port Ardonogue, the destruction of the crusader fleet. He had relatives in Ardonogue.
“I should be back there, protecting by home,” he said out loud.
No, he thought. I’m an exile now. They would kill me if I went back.
Alex’s sadness was doubled by what had happened last night. His one friend, Aros, had been taken by an evil wizard. He had nothing left now. No friends except for Luxus.
Luxus! Alex thought. I hadn’t even thought of him. He must be devastated.
But when Alex thought about it he realized that he hadn't even seen the boy since last night.
Where could he be?
The Crusader’s thoughts were interrupted by the sight of someone on the road. The person was quite near now. He was walking on a road that led strait into Forestmen land. Alex leapt at the thought that it might be someone with news from home. The traveler was wearing an old cloak that was full of holes and a hood covered his face.
Alex knew that the path was both trapped and guarded further up. Quietly he slipped down next to the road and waited. As the man past Alex stood up. The traveler started.
“Are you... Are you a bandit?”
Now it was Alex's turn to be surprised.
“What? Why would I be a bandit?”
The traveler looked disappointed.
“You’re not a bandit.”
He drew back his hood and sat down on a nearby rock. Alex was surprised to see that the traveler was only a boy.
“I’m sorry,” the boy said, “But I’ve been traveling for days and I haven’t had anything close to an adventure. I haven’t seen anyone and I haven’t had any chance to use this.”
He threw a gold hilted sword on the path.
“You’d think that a dragon was prowling the country side and everyone was hiding indoors. On top of that, every town I’ve come across has been deserted and I’m all out of food.”
Alex was astounded. The country was falling apart and this kid had no clue it was happening.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“Walf.”
“Are you a Crusader?” Alex asked.
“No, I’m actually from Classic LEGOland.”
Alex was confused. “Why are you here?”
“Well, I’m looking for the Misfits actually.”
“The Misfits? Why?”
“They’re my heroes.”
Alex was astounded this kid had come all the way here just to see the Misfits.
I suppose I could bring him to Bjarn... He thought. No. this land is too dangerous. This boy isn’t too experienced with his sword and if I brought him back he could end up chopped up like those poor Forestmen.
It was then that Alex realized something. He didn’t want to go back himself. He felt so useless at the keep, like he should be out finding his friends. That was it of course. He had to leave. He would have to do it in secret though. Bjarn might not like it. With that decided, his thoughts returned to the present.
“Look...Walf...you have to go home. Nothing but death lies ahead.”
“What? But I’ll die if I go home. I don’t have any food.”
“Well there is that I suppose. All right then, come with me.”
The two figures made their way through the crowded corridors of Drullen Bell Keep. Alex was in the lead. The Forestmen knew him. He wouldn’t be stopped. Close behind was Walf. He had his hood down though he couldn't help looking up and staring at the new sights. No one noticed him though. Everyone was busy with all the work that needed doing. Quietly they made their way to the storage rooms.
“Wow! Look at all the food!”
“Shhh! Let’s get what we need and go.”
After the provisions it was weapons. The two already had weapons but Alex was after something else. Reno's sword was still in the keep and Alex was going to bring it back to him.
Wait a minute. he thought. First I had better find Luxus.
“Wait here for me Walf. I need to speak with Bjarn.”
Alex found Bjarn, busy as usual. “Bjarn, have you seen Luxus?”
“What?”
“Have you seen Luxus?”
“Luxus? No, I haven’t. Shainya!” he called to the girl as she passed. “Have you seen Luxus?”
“No,” she said. “I’ve been looking all over for him. I haven’t seen him since the night…” Shainya stopped. “You don’t think…”
They did.
Poor Luxus. Alex thought. Tyco BloodVaine!
“I’m afraid it’s more of that devilish necromancer’s work.” Bjarn said.
Shainya started to cry. Bjarn put his arm around her and said, “It’s all right Shainya…”
Alex wanted to say something but he wasn’t that good with words.
She hasn't been the same lately. he thought to himself. Looks like time to leave.
Returning to Walf, he headed to the dungeons. Alex didn’t know why, but for some reason the sword had been locked up.
