Re: Building LEGO castle sets you never owned from scratch
Apart from that, not exactly vintage as I see it, but I'll probably start to put aside spare parts needed for 3739 Blacksmith Shop. The set that inspired me and countless other Castle fans. The original one Siskind sold, or a little bit modified one LEGO sold. I don't mind which version - the build...

Re: Black Knight Art Mosaic
I'm going to say that I like the yellow background: I don't think the lack of contrast is necessarily bad. As it is, the image both evokes the yellow backgrounds of the 80s/90s boxes and it gives the whole image something of a signature colour. I can see the argument for it being different--but I al...

Re: 40601 Majisto’s Magical Workshop GWP
I've got to be the as target a demographic as possible for this: I was 6 in 1993, my oldest LEGO catalogue that I clearly remember staring at was that year, and my younger brother had this set our entire childhood. It's close to the top of my "I really should pick that up..." from childhoo...

I nominate this guy: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ElephantKnight/Castle/Minifigs/thumb/black_knight.png_thumb.jpg This one for sure. Those horse bardings are still the best... Also like the Black Falcon knight from 6059. Guess it was the only armored one from that faction, in the old days at l...

Re: Which are the OG swords
My brother and I had both as a kid. Based on the sets we owned, the shift happened somewhere around 1993. My 6081 King's Mountain Fortress (first released in 1990, but I got my copy in 1993 with either a '92 or '93 catalogue) and our various Black Knight/Crusader polybags (1491, 6009, 1463), which w...

Re: CCC XX: Majisto's Tower Reimagined
I agree that this was an excellent choice to work with: since it was a medium-sized set and not one of LEGO's most complete, it offered a lot of scope for improvement and creation, while still being distinctive enough to be recognisable when upscaled.

Re: Minifig Lute Player
The distribution of the different figs in each series has varied by series. The entire box of Collectibles seems to have generally been the same (i.e. it's not randomised within boxes) but that doesn't mean that it's always been the same number of each fig in each box: for example, there might be th...

Re: Majisto's Magical Micro Workshop
Beautiful!
Of course, I say that as a fellow childhood fan of the set. I would love to see dragon plumes nudged back into existence, but even if a produced version of this had them edited out, this is still a great rendition and one I've love owning.

Re: New Castle Torso with Falcon Red Cape from LEGO BAM
The Build-a-Fig station isn't really back yet at my "local" LEGO Store (Natick, Massachusetts, USA), but they have got preassembled figs in packets, and I was there last week. Someone on staff knows what the people want: one stack of the packets had three identical figs: light bley conical...

Re: 10305 Lion Knight's castle.
- Shields. OMG, all of those shields! So useful. I hope somehow we could get them in numbers. The Queens shield in particular is just plain fantastic. I have faith that they will be printed. - Barding. While not the best barding prints ever made, they are pretty darn nice. Honestly, I'm quite impre...

Re: 10305 Lion Knight's castle.
I think the "mid-level AFOL build at best" (paraphrasing) critique is an interesting one, if only because I think part of the reason I might like this as much as I do is BECAUSE it has a very old school "big grey wall syndrome" simplicity to it. If made far more textured/detailed...

Re: 10305 Lion Knight's castle.
I'll second the opinion that this better be available for a reasonable amount of time--it's not exactly cheap! Setting aside the price tag, this is an awesome set: it's got a little bit of everything and chock full of easter eggs galore. Factoring in the price tag, it's [ALMOST] too much: I'd have h...

Re: Lego castle tower moc! Full interior!
I'm impressed at how, on the inside, the smallness of the footprint is apparant: really just classic vignettes all stacked, while--on the outside--it's imposing and massive. It's an excellent contrast.

Re: 90th anniversary set (No, not that one)
Overall, I think LEGO did a really good job picking which sets to represent for a full-spectrum look at LEGO's history and if this set doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I am likely to get it for pure nostalgia purposes. I am particularly curious if the Egyptian obelisk piece is a print or a sticker--I ...

Re: Do you lump CMF Evil Dwarf with Fantasy Era Dwarf factio
Short answer: yes. Longer answer: because the CMF Evil Dwarf's head is such a perfect match for the fleshtoned Blackbeard (from Pirates of the Caribbean), I long ago swapped out his head for a less-distinctly-evil one. Sure, his overall vibe is dark, but it's on the dark end of the rest of the Dwarf...
