So far any Lego reps(sources) haven't denied the rumor and have actually supported it with additional bits of info. I think there could still be some truth to this. We should know in a few more months hopefully.

In my eyes the Hobbit sets are rather weak, so I would really appreciate new generic Castle sets... I agree I really don't think any of them are that great except the 79003 An Unexpected Gathering and maybe 79004 Barrel Escape isn't to bad either. Not really anything Castle like in these Hobbit set...
