Re: The LEGO MOvie - I've seen it
I took my son (5) to see it yesterday. I was quite impressed - the initial trailers made me hesitant, because I assumed the best parts of the movie would be shown there. But, it was great all around. There's a lot of good LEGO related humor, and some really cool visuals with lots of varied landscape...

Re: Do you have a medieval hero?
I really like Alcuin of York, a scholar and clergyman in Charlemagne's court. A friend, instructor, and adviser to Charles, he helped to establish a strong educational and monastic tradition with the Franks (he was Anglo-Saxon). He also is quoted as telling Charlemagne that the massacre of Verden wa...

Re: the usual suspects of a small society
This small town is sounding pretty big!
Farm/field workers would definitely be important.
Gong farmers? Criminals (in the stocks)? Innkeeper? Travelling performers? Pilgrims?

LOTR: The Forbidden Pool on Cuusoo
Zwerg (aka Faramir, aka Michael), a fellow LOTR Living Card Game enthusiast, has created a really nicely done MOC of the Forbidden Pool from The Two Towers. It's currently up for vote on Cuusoo (over 100 supporters in just 2 days)! It has some nice play features (secret cave, passage under the water...

Those Terrible Middle Ages
Our county library system had a few copies of this book and I recently received my hold. It's been well worth the wait. Ms. Pernoud was the national archivist in France during the mid to late 20th century and as a historian focused on medieval times. This book dispels some of the nastier rumors of t...

Re: Mill Village Raid (Personal review)
Definitely agree. This and MMV were the first two set I bought when I re-introduced myself to LEGO a little over a year ago. They are still in my top 5 of the sets I own -- just below the Joust and maybe Bag End.

Re: Pics of New Hobbit Sets
I am a bit concerned that the Goblin King looks as big as the Cave Troll from Mines of Moria though! I've you've seen the preview trailer for The Hobbit movie, that's about the size of the Goblin King in the film. I agree that most of these don't look quite as good as most sets in the first wave. I...

Aw, you beat me to it! I was watching the trailer for the LLOTR game and noticed all of the cool figures they're showing. I love the Witch King's mace and mount!

Re: Tolkien's Writings
It's interesting to me that this thread has just revived, because I've recently been re-reading through all of my Tolkien books (a lot of them, including his philology essays). I've come to the conclusion that my favorite book is "Unfinished Tales" because it includes snippets of informati...

Re: LotR sets revealed!
I'm really looking forward to a Bag End set as well. In fact, when I first told my wife one of the sets is called "Gandalf Arrives" she was very excited it might include Bag End as well!

Re: New LEGO Storage Containers (Home Depot)
I bought several of these Stanley 46-compartment boxes from Home Depot, and I've been very happy. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much (customizable) space is available. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ12kz/R-100375898/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053#...

Re: LEGO Factory on National Geographic channel
I was able to watch this yesterday through our on-demand service, and was quite glad I did. (Thanks for the head's up, Bruce!) I was quite interested in seeing the mold for the new die, apparently the most expensive they've ever made! Most of what was mentioned about AFOLs centered on Mindstorms, al...
