Microscale Landscape Build

This is my first foray into microscale building. While I like the cliffs, I think I didn't spend enough time on the top of the plateau and think it looks too plain. I'll have to correct that on future builds. This is meant to be the delta of a river (where the ship is) running into the ocean, where ...

Re: Historical Accuracy?

I tend to do a mix. I like to build in a fantasy setting, so there's obviously things that are not historically accurate--like wizards and trolls and whatever. On the other hand, I try to make the rest of the build as historically accurate as possible. The last build I put on here, a peasant house, ...

Re: The End of Nexo Knights

My wife and I cheered when we heard the announcement. I only bought one of the army builder packs of the villains. Other than that, the parts that I did like out of the sets were produced in colors I couldn't use in my MOCs, and there was nothing there for either of us. Bear in mind that we have bou...

Re: Crossing Orange Fern Gorge

The whole scene is great, but I particularly like the stonework. I am curious: do you have a method to building it, or do you start putting pieces together and build it as you go? I ask because I am trying to make my stonework look more natural, and I think you have done an excellent job. I see a lo...

Re: CCC XIV MOC Critiques Thread

Bruce, I must thank you a lot for your hard work in this thread. This makes me want to participate in the contest again. Not only would it be awesome to have some feedback afterword, but even the insight that you have provided already gives me some idea of what the judges are thinking when they look...

Congrats! I'm super happy for you! I really love all of your creations--they're some of my favorite that I've seen over the years. Keep up the awesome work!

Re: CCC XIV Winners!

I understand the concerns. I felt that I tried to put myself out there and ask for critiques with my builds, but frankly, I did not get a lot of feedback. Maybe it's that this community doesn't get much traffic anymore, I don't know. I felt more welcome and that I got a lot more feedback on eurobric...

Re: CCC XIV Winners!

I would also like to clarify my position: my goal is to improve my building techniques. Therefore, I don't care what my score is (and frankly think that Bruce's point is quite right about scores being demoralizing), and I don't even care how well I did versus anyone else who put in entries. I would,...

Re: CCC XIV Winners!

I will say that I did not participate this year and in fact am not very active here anymore because of last year's contest. I realize I am not a particularly good builder, but I was disappointed with the lack of feedback from last year's contest. I wanted feedback on my builds so that I could improv...

Re: CCC XIV: Leanorll Manor

That is fantastic! I really like the overall style. It reminds me a lot of the Blacksmith Shop by Daniel Siskind. The interior that opens and the stout, detailed but not overly complex exterior really appeal to me. This is the kind of thing that I would like to see be a part of a castle-themed modul...

Re: Color ID?

Yeah, $20 for 3 gallons of just about any Lego is pretty good, but the dark orange looks kind of expensive of BrickLink, so it's an even better deal!

Re: Color ID?

Thanks! I was thinking it was rust, but wasn't having a lot of luck. The Dark Oranges I've seen look a lot closer. I have a lot of plates and 33°slopes, so I'm hoping to get some landscaping and some roofing out of it.

Re: 71040 Disney Castle

I didn't buy it for the figures! In fact, I may be one of the few people that didn't really care about the Disney minifigs all that much. I picked up a few for their hair and whatnot, but didn't pick up any of the mice or ducks. I'm a little bummed that the Disney castle doesn't have anything beside...
