Re: Brickworld 2012

I'll be around somewhere. I'll have a mohawk and a clay Hammer of Thor necklace. Feel free to introduce oneself. ^-^;;

Re: Opinions on the new swords

True! :) Some Pilum were also made to bend on impact with a shield, I believe. But as far as I know they both had a pretty noticeably thin bar above the main shaft, which the new spear lacks. Not really my area of expertise though. I do like the new spear... I'm just not sure I'd call it more realis...

Re: Opinions on the new swords

I would actually say that the old spear is generally more realistic... For reference . Although that details nordic spears, they were basically identical throughout England, Europe and even Rus Asia, and did not change much through many years. I know less about ancient spears, like Greek or Roman bu...

Re: Opinions on the new swords

I prefer the leaf bladed spear without the under-blade ring, but that isn't to say the new spear is bad.

Re: Funny Sword

Unfortunate, in a way... but still, that's kinda cool! Real swords bent at times, and if I wanted to use a detail like that in a scene, I'd rather LEGO did it for me than make me bend my own ;)

Re: Opinions on the new swords

The 'claymore' is actually a pretty nice early-mid period norman sword. And the spatha is a nice spatha. I like them both. I do have a fondness for the classic LEGO shortsword but in terms of historical accuracy it certainly falls short, and that's been my interest lately. This new arming sword is f...

Re: Jelly Bean Knights

I didn't really like the knight figures much myself, but just to play devil's advocate, painted armour doesn't seem all that outlandish.

Re: News: Death of the Classic Horse

Sweet. Pretty happy about this. Although it's a shame the headgear wont fit. Actually... curious about that. It's entirely possible that the overall horse will be put together in a similar way to the old one. Which means, theoretically, one could pray apart a new and old horse of matching colours an...

Re: Chain mail arms

What you are thinking of is not a tunic but a surcoat. Sometime in the 11th century (I think) this style began to be worn- a cloth tabard, worn over the top of (usually long-sleeved) mail. Probably most associated with the Crusades. The tunic was worn yet under the mail. The current LEGO look seems ...

Don't wizards usually wear robes? :P

The dark forester is pretty silly though.

Re: this is just plain ridiculous

Actually, I'm pretty dang sure that the torsos were swapped with the heads. The "witch" (warlock!) appears to have dark grey arms, and the female dragon rider has Willa's dress top.

Re: Lands of Classic Castle map draft voting

I'm not part of this whole affair so I'm not sure how much this matters, but personally, while I have nothing against shmails' map geographically, the inordinately precise, obviously computer-drawn style really doesn't look right to me here. I vastly prefer the more natural hand-drawn look of wobnam...
