Re: Archers in Front or Behind?

Historically it could be both. At the star archers were often in front to give more ability to loose their arrows without hindrance (and potential danger) of men in front of them. Then once the enemy is closer move to the rear or flanks. The issue is once the enemy has closed loosing arrows point bl...

Re: LOTR and the hobbit lego

I am excited about this in many ways. Biggest issue to me is the Fleshies as most of the others here. I just hope they make similar faces in the standard yellow as on the fleshies. The set names could be potentially awesome. After seeing what TLC could do with the minifig line I have high expectatio...

Re: Battle Wagons

These actually were in use for hundreds of years in Eastern Europe. Take a look at the Hussites if you are interested in war wagons. Seems in 1419 Jan Zizka started out with standard wagons and over time build them up into a much more specific strategy of basically creating a mobile fortress. One Hu...

I have a new one for KKII.... Just bought some specialized spray paint and made some really spiffy metallic gold breastplates and helmets!

Re: Lego 10223 Kingdoms Joust Exclusive

Really happy to see what may be a return of the Black Falcon faction. Even if he is a lone BF character he sure is awesome. Look at that shield and the spiffy breastplate. The level of detail in some of these new Lego sets has been great. I love the windows and the general building of the surroundin...

Re: An Email to Lego

Two thoughts. One is that the 2012 Kingdom set is worth at least two or three smaller sets. Perhaps in part because what looks like a return of the venerable (and best) of castle factions, the Black Falcons! As well it seems they do not release the kingdom sets till mid year so we still have several...

Re: The Decline of Lego Castle?

Davee, Bat on stick... haven't you seen three amigos? Bat, the other white meat. I do not think the 2007 lines on are even close to how cartoony Fright Knights and early KKII were. That said at least with minor changes I can use Fright Knights.... still cannot figure how to use much of the sill KKII...

Re: Modern day castle builders

Some day Bruce.... some day. I found this site likely a decade ago and think it is a neat concept. I would like to just make a simple castle with a smallish keep/manor and encircling wall with a gate and tower or two.

Re: Top 10 best sold LEGO sets of 2010

I certainly did not help put any of these sets up for 2010.... only bought castle and pirate sets last year.... I am a bit surprised in some ways that the Castle did not make it as we sold scores of them at the TRU I was at the two months before Christmas. That said Star Wars was often the default o...

Re: New York Toy Fair 2011

I was kinda bummed about the carriage as well. I liked the look of it but for 40 dollars I do not get it. I might have to get a few of the smithies as it is a neat little set with a very flexible figure (the smith) and lots of random weapons.... though the bow looks rather odd to me. Since I have ki...

Re: Monthly challenge #6: Inspired by Tolkien

Here is my little MOC for this month.

The Battle of Helms Deep. This is the point after the gate to the Hornbugh has been shattered and Aragorn stands upon the battlements to wait for the new day.

Helms Deep One

Helms Deep Two

Enjoy,

Re: Weekly Set Review: Dark Dragon's Den

I actually liked this set very much. I do really wish TLC at the time had done more to use less of the massive huge rock pieces but as we can see it is not fully entrenched, so here is the set that started it all. For good or bad. Just seemed liked they could have done more with smaller parts and mo...

Re: Battle Dragon 6018 again.

Vrio, Looted shields? Huh. A medieval faction would never use an enemy shield over a long period of time unless part of some plan of attack. Shields were a means of identification. Using another's shield was a big no no. Big, BIG no no. They might keep enemy shields like they kept banners and spurs ...

Re: Battle Dragon 6018 again.

Not sure how we know the two figs in this set belong to any faction, except perhaps the guy with the BF shield. They all seem to use the same breastplate torsos at this time regardless of the faction. I never got the feeling any of the kingdoms in the 80s were actually on one side all the time. More...
