What's happening?

Post by Sir Kohran »

Maybe it's just me, but there seems to have been a real drop in activity lately. Any particular reasons perhaps?

Four possible explanations:

Everyone is getting back into their busy routines after the Christmas holidays.

There hasn't been much new news/sets to discuss lately.

Everyone is worn out after the excitement of CCCV.

An important post-count milestone was coming up and everyone was saving their posts to make a MOC to commemorate the occasion...

All four apply to me,

Steve

I haven't noticed too much of a drop, but yes it's there. I agree with Athos' reasons. Shouldn't be too long before some more castle sets come out which will get people talking.

While on the topic of activity, does anyone know why there were 210 users online on June 25th, 2007!?

This perhaps? I'm not sure, but it's the only thing I can currently think of?

For me personally: I'm building my present day army. My medieval guys are still getting set up for my latest set-up. And my last Final was on Friday.... I think I'll be back to more activity, but that could take awhile.

Hehe I don't know the reason for the drop in activity, though I have noticed it. It probably has to do with CCCV ending, it does for me at least.

You see, I didn't start building for CCCV until quite late into the contest, and I still built 6 decently sized to rather big entries. Because I wanted to build as much as I could within the time limit (this due to a personal wager I had with Maedhros to see who could enter the most entries and who would get honorable mentions on them), I had no time to sort in between.

To make matters worse, I built this just after CCCV, so by the end of that, all my castle parts were spread out over a bunch of bins and completely unsorted. To tell you the truth for the past 3 weeks I've just been sorting instead of building ;)
Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs

I think Athos is right in general.

For me, I'm just plain BUSY! I try to post when I can (usually as a break from stuff), but with a wedding, senior film project, church going-ons, and just good old friends to be with, I find LEGO is pushed back a bit.

Don't worry, though. I'm still very much here!

Classic-Castle is kind of a roller-coaster ride of activity.
One week, the place is swarming with members, the next, there's just a few lurkers.

I myself lurk most of the time...
I've also had several MOC concepts in my head for a long time, but I haven't gotten around to them because of all the sets I recently got that I need to sort through and stuff.

I try to keep active, but as of late, I've been a bit busy. I recently started doing a hardcore cleaning in my room, and right now I'm picking up and sorting my LEGO, even doing a little downsizing along the way, listing some of it at the bay. (that's another thing, I'm trying to become a bit more steady as a seller on eBay, since I don't have a job and all..)

I'm hoping once I get things cleaned up and in order I'll be insired to get back into building, and customizing my LEGO, been a bit of a bum for the past few months.

..Once Summer begins I'll probably be pretty inactive as well. I just love being outside when the weather is nice. And this Summer is going to be extra special- My Brother and his Girlfriend are expecting (July 4th), so I'm going to be an Aunt! :)

I lurk most often. This weekend I've been taking apart and sorting my castle. It took 10 hours to take apart. And sorting so far has been 16 hours and there are still two bowls of small parts left to go. There were so many parts in it that it overflowed a laundry basket.

Generally people have more time during the holidays. Alot of builders are quite active during the various contests, however this obviously drops afterwards. Anybody who was building/saving a MOC for the contest is likely quite busy with other things. In my experience we don't see alot of great MOCs during this time of year. In fact, most great building spurts unsurprisingly happen during contest season.

Unfortunately, one of the negative effects of contests is that many people tend to build specifically for contests making times like this seem rather dull. As much as I love contests, I find that they can have an adverse effect on building habbits. That being said, I'm hardly one to talk. I haven't hosted many new MOCs in a few years. My current project has gone beyond the point of frustration with several brick shortages and building delays.

I would have to agree with Athos. I didn't know that there was a drop because I have not been here (cleaning, taking apart and sorting LEGO, school).

I have to agree with others that this is merely part of the normal ebb and flow of posting. After major contests, there is usually a lull as people have been frantically building and posting for a bit and then take a break.

I recently tore apart 2 of my creations that I've had built for the past 5 years. I rebuilt my evil castle into a tower and posted it a week or 2 ago. I planned on doing some interior designing, but got sidetracked when I decided to tear down my King Leo's castle to rebuild a different one. I don't know when I'll have pics up since I have a long way to go. All I can say is that "I'm always thinking".

I agree with Bruce. I think this is another part of the Classic-Castle cycle. I personally have been working hard at school to get my grades up a little. Most of my spare time goes to either building, or hanging with friends.
