How-to articles

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

The How-to section of the site has been recently renovated, adding DNL's recent article, fixing some broken links and doing other needed clean-up. We'd love to invite you, the CC member, to help by contributing an article of your own. If you've come up with some cool new construction technique, or have a way to customize, write it up (e.g. Ben's article on castle wall offsets or Recluce's resin casting). Even if you feel that you don't have something of your own you want to highlight, you could write an article that catalogs work by others in a particular area (e.g. my articles on walls or brick-built beasts). There may be existing posts in the forums that you could join together and make an article (I made a few of these under customizing, I know there are many articles in the publishing section on photography hints, for instance). You may also have some expertise in actual medieval history that might help people in their LEGO worlds (e.g. Patrick and Stephen's article on heraldry.

Even if you don't know anything about html codes (though we've got some helpful hints), you could just write the text and assemble all of the links and I'd help you put it into final form.

Potential how-to article ideas:
Using Sculpy or some other technique to make custom accessories
Different ways of building stained-glass windows
Building working siege engines
Different jobs in medieval times shown in fig form
A comprehensive listing of torsos from other themes useful for castle building
How to organize a group display for a LUG event or a major festival
How to photograph your creations
Building dragons
Building curved shapes as applied to castle structures
A history of castle techniques
How to put together a webpage
How to start a LEGO blog
A listing of the different photo-sharing sites and their relative strengths
Castle-themed LEGO wargaming
Finish up our castle lexicon, that stopped at G
How to organize your LEGO armies
Different ways of building ships
Different ways of building wagons
Different ways of building roofs
Different ways of building spiral staircases
Different ways of building arrow slits
Different ways of building ...

You get the idea. Pretty much anything related to LEGO and castle is fair game. Contact me or any admin if you have an idea. CC is YOUR community, so we want all of your input.

This free program can be very helpful when you are writing a how-to article. You don't need to know anything about HTML to use it and it is easy and very quick to use. It works almost the same way as Microsoft Word, except you can save what you have written as HTML and you can add images at the size you want them to be and make them link to a website with just a few clicks.

I've added links to four tutorials that Eggy had already written up on MOCpages. Let me know if there are other pre-existing articles that Would be appropriate to add.
