April Fools Day Joke

Post by Athos »

Was this the most meta April Fools Day joke ever? By not having one, you were able to prank those of us who kept checking back all throughout the day for one?

Ooo, very clever if true. I don't pass through CC anymore as much as I'd like to, but I certainly stopped by to check in on their classic april fools day pranks.

I was very happy it did not happen. I am not a fan of this internet craze of April 1st jokes. They are never funny. Sometimes they do damage to computers and often they cause more frustration than humor when you can't access the site you need to. And any information that comes out on April 1st is automatically questionable, even if it is truthful. I'd rather people put energy into doing something good for people...anything good.

So thank you admin's for not doing an April 1st activity.

I dunno.... the "Google Nose" and "YouTube Contest" videos were both pretty funny :)

Um, yeah, that was it. Aren't we so clever and evil? Mwahahaha!

A good April 1 prank can be fun, but the good ones take a lot of time. Here I'm specifically thinking of Classic-Cattle and Classic-Clickits. We just didn't have the time or energy to do something really good this this year, and I'd rather do nothing than something lame. I was tempted to do a Friends-themed front page, but the new Friendsbricks.com sort of pre-empted that.

IMO the most effective prank ever was the Castle Tub set. That might be the first LEGO April Fool that ever showed up online. I was one of the many that was initially taken in, and it still hurts that it was fake. Now everyone expects a prank, so the fake announcements never fool anyone. Much better to do something obvious but fun.

I actually didn't see much around the web this year. Eurobricks announced that they were changing their name to Ameribricks, I saw a fake set announcement on Brickset, and Lego Diem featured the MegaBlox logo as their picture of the day. I'm tempted to think that LEGO's 'compromise' that they would withdraw the Jabba's Palace set after two years was a bit of a prank on the the Austrian Muslim protesters who didn't realize that they would have done so anyway.

Bwahaha!

I've been mostly away, swamped with other things in my life lately. I didn't see much this year around the LEGOverse. It was on April 1 that I saw a pic on Flickr of the new pick-a-brick build-a-model that is going in to LEGO stores (ACpin posted a pic here), so I was skeptical at first.
