Religious stuff

Post by The Hordesman »

Okay, here's the deal; lately, people have began writing alot of religious stuff in their posts and their signatures, and it really "tickles my nerves" so to say.

Sure, Ive never had anything against things like "God Bless" or "God Speed" since they are perhaps christian, but they seem to be anonymous to whom this "God" person is, no offence there. On other hand, when writing "Jesus Christ", "Our Lord and Saviour", I feel deeply offended, and has even begun thinking of leaving this site since the policy of religious stuff has been broken, and we "pagans" are bombarded with these malicious messenges.

Yes, I was thinking of starting a topic like this myself just this morning.

Frankly, I find it offensive that people are thrusting their faiths in our faces, proclaiming how Jesus Christ is supposedly my 'lord' and how I need to be 'saved' by 'him'. As an atheist (this doesn't mean I'm any lower than any Christian, and nor do I need to be 'saved' because of it) and a free man (as stated by the English barons and king in the Magna Carta) I am seriously annoyed by such patronising and ignorant announcements.

Also, do I need to remind people like Histo Sci that this is a Lego Castle board, not a church? In fact, it seems that even that doesn't work. I and others have told him time and again to STOP this offensive solganizing. However, he's just carried on, without any regard to those of us who DON'T appreciate having religious phrases tossed about. I'm starting to think it's antagonistic.

I'd like the admins to take action on the issue. NOW, please. This is a problem which won't be solved by staying quiet.

I've PMed Bruce over this issue and I'm sure he'll do what's right. If Histo doesn't stop, I'll start writing "In the name of Allah" and "Follower of The Last Prophet Mohammed" all over the place. People should know their limits. I adore CC because it's so welcoming, unbiased and neutral in religion. Anyways, I'm looking forward for further action. Thanks Hordesman for bringing this up.

The admins are discussing the religious posting issue and will post clarification to the CC terms of service as soon as we can. Please keep this conversation civil and constructive by addressing the issue and not specific members. Thank you.

This really isn't serious... but my new Signature is taken from a passage in the "Book of Origin", the sacred scripture of a fictional fanaticalist religion called "Origin" from the StarGate universe.

Basically... it's one of those "convert or die" type ulitmatums. Although this statement is for those who resist subserviance.

It's nothing serious. Just has some implications for MOCs and group building projects. That is with regard to the new idea I've been throwing around as of late.

As for the religiousity in the site... personally, I just ignore it and not make an issue of it. Im might be Roman-Catholic, but I don't exactly follow the Church's dogma. I'd just politely ignore whatever some missionary says to me. Im more into a pure and personal connection to Bathala (ancient Philippine name for God).

No, this is awfully serious.

I got to this forum to discuss things I enjoy, not things I just cannot stand- religion is held in religion forums or forums with an off-topic section, not here.

Else, I can just about start using political and ethical stuff in my posts.
Also, I don't need to hear arguments from christians, it isnt helping.

I think JPinoy was saying that his new signature wasn't serious not that your complaint wasn't serious. I'm just guessing, but I think he was trying to indicate that his signature came from an imaginary religion, yet some might find it offensive.

Also why don't you want to hear arguments from Christians? I'm a Christian but I would support you, as I want to hear from as many LEGO fans as possible. And I enjoy that this board keeps the focus on LEGO. Please just be patient while the admins work out some clear terms for everybody to follow.
Hoping to have a witty signature and cool avatar one day.

He said it wasnt serious, I dont care for imaginary religions, but saying that this isnt a serious topic gets me miffed.

I think it was obvious I meant christians who say that this isnt an important topic(since people have the bad habbit in defending their own no matter what). I guess I wasnt too obvious in my words then...

What if he replied, "In my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.". Would that be better?

I think you should make the "my" bold, Anubisconq, so more people notice it.

Edit: And yes, it would help, in my opinion.

Why is it that its alright for other religions to proffess their faith, but you immedietly jump all over us christians if we even say the name of Jesus?

Back on topic...

I have no problem with posting "God Bless", though I must point out that this site isnt for talking about religion. It is for talking about lego castles. Really I dont think a big stink needs to be made about this. Just my thoughts.

I am not christian but I really don`t mind people posting there faith.HOWEVERI find it quite inconsiderate and rather disgusting if people have asked (Histo-Sci)to stop saying this and you keep doing it.This forum is supposed to be a nuetral, freindly, and clean Forum and I hope the Adminastration is fair all around,I don`t think people should be banned from stating there religion but if people complain maybe they should.

Hello all, the Admins are talking about this, proposing some TOS changes and some consequences.

Part of the issue is that I personally haven't been aware of some of these specific complaints. A good way to deal with someone who you think is breaking the TOS is to ignore them and PM an admin. Send us a link to the specific post that is bothering you, and we'll do what we can.

My personal desire is to keep this site friendly but religiously neutral. There is a certain amount of religious material that is ok, but beyond that is not ok. The hard part is setting in stone (aka the TOS) where that line is. But one thing is certain: we want Classic-Castle to be open and welcoming to anyone of any faith, and part of that means keeping the boards free of religious solicitation.
