C-C Chat problem?

Post by Sir Nelson »

I just entered chat tonight, and it would not take my username/password... it said that I had to re-register.

Thinking that this was due to my change in email address, I re-registered and was able to login to the chatroom. Now, Jennifer and Athos also just reported the same problem - what's going on? Just curious... :?

The chat software, which is old and creaky, seems to have lost its user database. Oddly, it has maintained the banned user list.

My suggestion is to just sign up again.

Hey,

I just checked and had the same issue, but there was no problem to reregister with the same username. Sorry I fell asleep the other night, Nelson. I'm sure everyone who logged in after got their chance to poke fun at the ghost of Bruce, though.

Guys, we seem to have a serious issue. Apparently, some stupid Turkish people got into the channel and have total control over it. Being one myself, I can understand what they are saying. Basically they ban everyone who enters the channel. I'm trying to reason with them at the moment. Don't open new accounts until then.

Sorry for the double-post, but this is important IMO.

I've reasoned with the guy and annoyed him to death. After awhile, he got bored and left the channel. Now he can see our IP addresses, which is pretty troubling. Also he knows the channel's password, so he has MOD powers. I doubt that he'll visit the chat room ever again, but the password must be changed. I don't know how they found this place, but they pissed me off really good. Anyways, now that they're gone, we can enjoy the chat as usual.

I think one of them is back, his name is sedat...
I hope they leave it alone and go away. :x

Thank you, Scnicker, for stepping up to deal with this issue. It's a wonderful example of the benefit of having people from all over the world as part of our little corner of the net. Though I don't use the chat feature, it is annoying to hear of people hacking in for the sole purpose of being a nuisance.

Thanks footsteps. Anyways, the guy is gone totally now (I guess). The chat feature should be safe to use now. Just open new accounts (for the guy hacked in and deleted all of them.) and continue chatting. However, if you ever see someone named "sedat" or "ASKPERISI", I would advise you to delete your accounts from the chat room. These guys had access to our IPs which can cause computer hackings and all kinds of stuff. It would leave a great deal of damage on your PC or Mac, if you don't have the proper protection. So I just wanted to report in.I want to apologize to all of the members here. The guys were Turkish and I felt responsible for what happened (eventhough I don't even know these guys). Just don't get the wrong impression on our country ;). Laters,

Don't worry about that Scnicker, just think what trouble I would be in if I had to answer for all of the dumb things Americans did!

Thank you, and I won't get the wrong idea about it. I'm glad I don't use chat, because I really wouldn't want my computer hacked.

No, don't be disencouraged in using the chat. Just watch out, that's all.

I hate to tell you, but your IP address is logged when you use the forum, too. As far as IP addresses are concerned, you are just as likely, or unlikely, to get your computer hacked by using chat as you are the forum.

And if you're on dial-up, IP addresses are pretty worthless, since you change it every time you log in to your server.

The chat seems ok to me. What Troy says looks correct.

There's just a problem with my email address. It says it's invalid and does not exist, but my hotmail password still works. Does anybody know what's up with that? I'm not sure people are supposed to go around forums without email addresses.
