This is a topic that comes up from time to time and always gets voted down, with some good reasons. One of the best things about CC is that we are a forum focused totally on LEGO Castle and, to a lesser degree, general LEGO... other off-topic forums have a tendency, especially on large sites like this, to create distraction and even cause "discord" among the members.

Not a terrible idea, but one that many here prefer CC didn't go along with... a focused forum on LEGO Castle is, for me, bliss. :)

My thoughts exactly. Having come over from Lugnet soon after the creation of CC, I am very much against having an off-topic forum. That was, and continues to be, the downfall of Lugnet. While it could be useful at rare times, there isn't any use for it that can't be done via Private Messages or email. Off-topic forums are generally the most divisive part of any forum.

Josh

PS. If anyone really "needs" an off-topic place to hang out, jump over to Lugnet. :)

An off-topic section works well for small communities, but large ones like CC often causes it to go wrong- people stop focusing on the subject and people get angry.

There's already been some disputes (with me being little of an antagonist aswell) already, we dont need more of that.

Let us keep the brick in focus! :D

I'm totally against it. Even lego related topics can get offensive and disturbing at times; I don't want to think about the fights we would have if we had an off-topic. Many people have instant messengers, if you want to chat so bad, try adding them to your contact list. Also this is a "only-lego" forum and it should stay that way.

When C-C was first advertised, I felt a twinge of disappointment that there wasn't an off-topic forum. And, I must admit, early on I was responsible for some topics going "off" (and I think I apologized for that -- if not, then I do now).

Over time I've become older and wiser. Actually, I started out that way, so does that make me "olderer and wiserer"?

I believe now that one of the greater reasons for the diminishing of Lugnet as a desired destination was the inclusion of off-topic posting (and off-topic categories).

C-C is the better for lack of off-topic threads, and for diligent policing of existing threads.

My two cents.

I voted no,
I like CC the way it is-right on topic and spam free :)

Off topic sections in forums just doesn't seem right. Why not just go to a forum that has off-topic sections-or better yet,go to a chat.

Hope CC stays on-topic

I am strongly opposed to adding any off-topic groups to the forums, and as such there will not be any added.

Off-topic forums lead to the dark side, and that always seems to spill over into the on-topic forums. If user a disagrees with user b over their choice of politician / religion / whatever, no matter how hard they try or deny it, that will cloud their interaction in other areas.

I prefer to keep this site free of such things. There are many general purpose forums out there for discussing such things, and other Lego-centric sites that allow off topic posting.

The admins agree with Troy. One of the main principles of Classic Castle has always been to stay on topic. This makes our community strong and friendly.

I vote no. If you want off-topic stuff... that's what BrickLink chat is for!

And we all know of the HAVOC that often occurs in the BL forums.

heh, there have been numerous times when I have wanted to post something off topic (waaay off topic in some cases) but have refrained from doing so. I think the reasons given above are pretty good, and there is a LOT less BS here than at other sites, so it does stand to reason: less off topic-ness = less BS)

I have to say, an OT forum would indeed increase the posting here, but is that in a good or a bad way? (Here's a hint; NO!)

Somehow there have bin a lot of off-topic posts in the games forums. Don't know why.

I agree with most others here, and I´m happy the admins are clear on this. Off-topic forums most often lead to hard feelings etc, at least on bigger forums like this...

Well personally I voted yes. I like the idea of an off topic thread for one simple reason; you get the oppurtinty to get to know more about the people who have the same intrests in you. We(well most of us) only know eachother as the Lego heads that we are, not as the people we are. I think off topic threads are good because you get to hear things and get to know things that give you more of an idea of what kind of people your talking to on a daily basis. I can definetly understand the point of view of those who voted "no". Off topic threads could possibly attract more people for the wrong reasons, and some topics may cause tention or just be plan stupid. Anyways I love this site the way it is, and I dont know if the addition of an off topic thread would make it any better or any worse!
