Taken avatars
I think this is getting very frustrating... I get an avatar that I know nobody else has, and somebody new joins and takes it. (I have nothing against you whoever you are) First I had the Bull shield, then sombody new takes it. Whatever, I can deal with that. But then when I get another, one that I realy like, then another person takes it! Now I am getting annoyed. I know that they probobly didn't know, but still! Maybe something that makes it so once sombody has an avatar then nobody else can use it would be good...

as well as my own avatar, and I can pretty much say no one uses my avatar but me.
Please understand that I am not 'patting myself on the back' here, a lot of guys here do great stuff. Just check out all the different avatars and you will see what I mean. I am just offering to help a fellow CCC member.

Re: Taken avatars
You are using avatars from the public avatar gallery. This is what happens. There are only so many avatars available there. If we made them exclusive, then only 30 or so people could have them. That doesn't seem very fair.SirCumferance wrote:I think this is getting very frustrating... I get an avatar that I know nobody else has, and somebody new joins and takes it.

My advice is to create a small image of a minifig or whatever you like and use that as your avatar. Thats what I did for my avatar.

It is because you have to upload your avatar at this forum. If you could link to your own webspace where your avatar is placed this wouldn't be a problem. *hint to admin*

Uh, you can do that! At least it was like that when I joined just last week. I don't know how to resize my picture. It's the wrong pixelation at the moment. I can use MS Paint or Photo impact bundled edition. If someone could tell me?

MS Paint makes files that are to big memory-wise anyway. You need to try another image editor. I am not familiar with Photo Impact, but if you can re-size the image to 120 - 120 and resample the image Compression Quality Factor to a lower setting, you can make the image work as an avatar. If you can't manage that, post the image to Brickshelf and then Private Message me with the link to your image. I can re-size it and upload it to brickshelf for you. Hope this helps,
William

Wow, LEGOFREAK, those are awesome!!! I don't have a really good drawing program for custom shields and now I realize everyone who owns a computer does!!! Very inspiring, uh, what did you use as a template? And by the way I just keep the avatar I like and keep it as that, however I will be making a custom one soon.
Check out my Brickshelf gallery here:

I just submitted a how to article to Kevin, and it needs to be edited, but it should answer a lot of your questions. I use MSPAINT to make the shields, and I use Anthonys shield template as a starting point. I have also created about 40 basic heraldic patterns that I use.
Anyway - just check it out when it is finally up .
