Maybe it could be trialed. If it falls bellow expectations the forum could be removed & all posts moved to the MOC forum

Sorry, could somebody explain what need this fulfills?

We already have a section of the website for How-To articles (does need more articles for sure.)

Every article in that section can have a link to a discussion on the existing forums (Some do in the form: "Discuss this article!")

As for seeing what has been posted lately, choose the "View posts since last visit" option after you log in and all the new posts are shown no matter what sub-forum they are in.

I would suggest that such forum posts be titled "How To: <insert title here>" to make it easier to scan through the subject headings.

Adding another sub-forum seems unneccesary to me. YMMV

I agree, this would a good idea, if the admins are okey with it.

Edit

I was thinking more about this. Another thing cool thing that could go in here would be lists of catagorized MOCs. For instance, say someone was working one vegitation, and wanted some ideas. They could go to the Vegitation thread, which would a be a listing of MOCs which have to do with or have great vegitation in them. The list would have links to the BS gallery, and names, creators, etc. We could have severals lists like this, for different things, like castle walls, vegitation, gates(gates, doors, drawbridges), tudor style, etc.

Hey all,

Two things. First, I agree that there have not been a lot of how-to articles lately, so .... that's an opportunity for you to go write some. :D Here's how. CC is a community site and any member of the community is totally welcome to write an article.

Second, I would not personally be in favor of additional forums that sub-divide the existing forums. Too many forums leads to "overcompartmentalized dorkism", where someone posts something, then five people tell them that they posted in the wrong place, then five more people tell those people that they should leave it up to the mods/admins, then ultimately some mod or admin comes along and puts it in the write place. Right now it's pretty straightforward - if it's at all about building LEGO castle creations it goes in Castle MOCs, all other LEGO building goes in General LEGO, with of course, other forums for other topics.

Oh, one other thing. I think that the "trial forum" thing doesn't work, because if we then remove a forum in the future those posts all disappear. In addition to the current active topics, the CC forums are a record of LEGO Castle building over the past 3+ years, so removing a chunk of posts is, IMO, non-ideal.

If the other admins want to add another forum, though, I'll certainly go along with it, but those are my $.02.

The problem I've experienced with General and Castle MOCs, is that these forums are the most active forums on these boards.

What about directing building tips to a relatively unused forum instead? I'm thinking specifically of the Display forum which registers less than 1 post per day. Building tips and displays seem to be closely related anyways. Both are tied closely together with the organization and presentation of MOCs.

If something like this is simply unworkable, I understand. I just want you to know that I truly appreciate the work you and your fellow Admins do for us Bruce. Keep it up, as we are all greatful (I hope  ) for your efforts.

Later.

Couldn't the posts just be moved to another forum, and locked, if the trial fails?

They could be moved but it would be a pain. Plus if any articles linked to a thread all of those would have to be edited in addition to the archives. Everything at CC is interconnected to a large degree.

I and several of the admins are not in favor of a new forum. A couple of the admins have not yet put in their thoughts about it. As a temporary solution, you could title your thread: Castle Building Technique: Technique A, etc.
