Same with me! Though I wish strange holidays were celebrated on the front page too! Like um... I dunno, but there has to be some out there.

I never liked this day and never will :). Why don't we get to celebrate other holidays as well :P? (I know we celebrate halloween, thanksgiving and xmas, but I'm talking about Islamic or Jewish holidays).

I think they try to keep it non-religious. I too would like to see some more holidays, but perhaps make it educational..... change it to reflect some historically significant holidays of the past. Many different cultures have had weird holidays, so if we did some research to find some former holidays of the middle ages we could bring them back to life on the CC home page.

You have a point there Recluce, but I want to remind you that those holidays are mostly celebrated by Christians. Anyways,I think we should keep this discussion to our PMs and not here ;).

Christmas...Easter...? I´d also like to see some other holidays, for example the Chinese celebrated New Year recently...

Well, you see, there you get into trouble. We have/had a Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday/Carnival theme that we've more-or-less abandoned because we not only have to deal with religious issues, but cultural as well. Not every country celebrates Mardi Gras the same way or even at the same time (some areas spend weeks celebrating).

As it is, we have to deal with all the Canadians complaining that Thanksgiving is a month late ;) Celebrating Chinese New Year would be just about the same, and I think we have even fewer Chinese members (or members who celebrate Chinese New Year) than we do Canadian (correct me if I'm wrong, though).

However, I think I might have an idea that I need to discuss with the other admins that may just work.

Holidays for specific countries likely would not be added unless it was medieval related. A possible example could be Guy Fawkes.

P.S. The main page has been updated.

Thanks for putting it in more plain english, that's pretty much what I said in my post above. I know that most holidays are religious in nature, but if they were highlighted for historical reasons we should be good. I'd love to learn about some weird, obscure holidays of the past!
