Dear Lego: Some Castle Product Suggestions

Dear Lego,

I am an avid fan, collector, and builder of your products and I would just like to offer some ideas for some of the models you'll be making in the future.

Kingdoms: There is a large community of Castle-themed collectors, and we hope that the Kingdoms line has not been discontinued. Many of us were hoping that you'd make a large $100 castle set that would be the main castle for the Green Dragons.

Black Knights: To this day, the classic Black-Knights/ Black Monarch theme continues to be my favorite. Please consider re-releasing this castle group either by re-releasing some of their classic older sets, or by re-releasing them in new sets, or by updating them in new sets. It would also be very cool to have the Blue Dragon of their shield made as an actual creature, roughly the size of the original Green Dragon in the Dragon Masters line.

Greeks and Romans: There has always been, and continues to be, a titanic demand for this theme. We all thank you for the collectible minifigs that have addressed this, and we continue to hope that these will be made into regular sets. The Spartan collectible minifig was not available to everyone, and the Ebay price for them is at a premium. I just hope that people like me can have a chance to enjoy a Spartan minifig!

I am a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit lines and the models that you've made. Since you've made wargs, I would like to suggest that you also make other fantasy creatures for the regular Castle theme, and that they can be ridden by minifigs and accomodate a saddle and/or barding such as:

Lion: with mane and tuft of hair on the tip of the tail.
Tiger: with stripes and a ruff of hair around the cheeks.

Wolf, Ram, Panther, Giant Eagle, etc...

Chima: I hope that you'd have a group of Tiger warriors in the future, to do battle with Laval's group of Lions.

General Castle: Since there have been many factions bearing a Lion on their shields and emblems, please consider making some warriors/soldiers with a Tiger as their emblem. They could have exotic helmets, exotic armor, exotic weapons, etc...

Thanks very much, and I hope that some of these things might be seen in the future!

Although I had previously not been in possession of any (I am now) I am throwing this out there: Bring back the bullet helm! :D

Or even better, a new bullet helm with a nose guard. That would be fantastic!

Some good points all around, destroyer. I agree totally with most everything you said.
I think it'd be awesome if TLG made some of the animals you stated as those would be great for Castle builds and many other things as well.
Yes, please bring back the Black Knights. Though I don't currently have any in my possession, I sure would be happy if I did.
Just my two cents. :)

Tigers don't seem to be terribly realistic for a medieval crest. I would think that is a bit too oriental, unless you are going for some sort of ninja theme.

I'd like to see some heraldry based of of real-life stuff, maybe with a horse like some of these - Google Search: "Horse Heraldry"

Just give us anything other than lions please!

I must admit that I'm over lions too. It's not hard to come up with new heraldry so I don't know why TLG keep flogging a dead horse. I guess they're banking on every kid wants a lion. I thought the original lion was good as well as the recent non-King Leo stuff. The Black Falcons was great and the updated version in the joust was fantastic. I didn't mind the crownie but really, there's any number of other devices you could use like a rook (could be a defender of the realm feel), griffin, horse and the list goes on.

Realistically speaking, lions were very commonly used in medieval and Renaissance heraldry. I think the lion is the most common non-geometric charge in English heraldry, and possibly French as well.

However, this is LEGO, not Burke's Peerage. I think you pretty much have to use animals to make heraldry remotely interesting for kids, but there are lots of cool animals that look great on shields--wolves, bears, horses, deer, eagles. If there's one thing Knights Kingdom II did right, it was feature a variety of animals on the shields.

Except the monkey. That was just weird.

You do not think kids would find crossed axes/swords to be cool?
I know i loved my crossed axe guys. They seemed like bad dudes.

I like the monkey. It still makes me laugh and I used it for a pair of war-monkeys for one of my wizards, back in the day. ;)

My brother did some custom unicorn faction decals back when he was still active in the community: Link

i could see Tigers being the heraldry of an Indian noble family or even a wealthy middle eastern family
