Stop releasing crossbowman without quivers

Please include a quiver with each future release of any figure equipped with a crossbow, or better yet please release a new quiver element that hangs at the waist like the indiana jones satchel.

Or if it's not possible could we have the quiver accessory as a permanent element on pick a brick. Thanks

I remember in the old days bowmen always came with quivers, but crossbowmen didn't.
I quite enjoyed that in that castle that came out 2 years ago or so? (can't find the setnumber now, but the one with the nice pointy tower with the red roof) the crossbowmen were wearing quivers too, but now in 70404 they went back to just the bowman with a quiver and the crossbowman without.
I don't think there's any specific reasoning behind this at all, just a choice made by someone somewhere down the line between design and manufacture.

Really historicaly speeking crossbowman rarely caried quivers for reload. Main reason was weight to the weapon and the strength it took to recock the string. It was an effeciant weapon at launching the arrow but very cumbersome in reloading aspects. Thats why normally they were posted on towers or in areas where you had cover so you could reload without worry of being hit by incomeing fire. Where as the standard bowman was quick, as there bows are light and could be fired more readaly.

Hope that makes sence,

Curt

Yes, I agree. The quiver part is a useful element. Also, more bowmen and less crossbowmen. I'm tired of crossbows. In the entire new castle line, there is a whopping one bow element. :(

That kinda makes sense. Quivers are probably one of my favorite accessories. I just wish Lego would include them in more castle sets along with/instead of a bunch of ye-old-style spears...

I have quite a few (about six) spare crossbows with no quivers in my collection, and because they don't have quivers I can't really use them for my armies! I wish they would include quivers in all sets with crossbows.

Ooh, I agree. I always am a little depressed when I get a minifig with a bow/crossbow, but no quiver. I agree!

Must agree with this one! I just bought a few quivers from Bricklink to go with my poor archers who need some arrows. :)

If you can't use them for your armies, you could always make some kind of weapons rack that has crossbows hanging from it, and include that somewhere in a MOC.

Crossbows were rarely ever used in the field from what I have found. They were more of a defense/hunting weapon. The only time an army would march them is when they were getting moved. Otherwise they were used mostly on battlements.

I agree Lego has over played the crossbow. Please give us some more bow elements and quivers.

I'll do that! ;)

I know (though they became more popular) but I think they look cool in LEGO armies! I don't have too many bows either, so crossbows fill up the gaps left for my projectile-men ;)

LEGO just gave us the new elf bow/longbow in 2011, and it has become a staple of both Castle & LOTR sets (as well as in CMF.) What new bows left are there to really make? I understand there are many different kinds of bows in the world. But realistically, what could LEGO do to make them different enough to be worth the new mold?

A couple more re-curves would be nice for Asian themed builds. Otherwise just releasing some sets with out the cross bow and with more bows in there place would be nice. I have some but would like more in useful sets. I am glad they did the elvish bow, just want them as readily available as the cross bow has become. Also a couple bows that are not knocked with an arrow would be nice, and a couple that are drawn for action scenes would be cool.

I agree that it was commonplace for crossbowmen to be positioned on towers but I always thought it was very common for conscripts to be issued crossbow weapons in the field as archers took years to train. Mercenaries, angry peasants, basically anyone not privileged enough to have been supplied adequate training for using the bow would often go for the crossbow.

It wasn't uncommon for crossbows to be fired from horseback and as technology improved they became even more commonplace and were powerful enough to take down your fancy-pants armoured knight.

So I guess it depends on what stage of medieval history we are talking about, if we are talking about the early stages of the middle ages I would have to agree with you on crossbow use being rare. But if we move to the 14th and 15th centuries, although not the prominent weapon, crossbows being used in the field was as commonplace as anything.

100% agree, I think in at least one instance of medieval European history crossbowmen were almost as commonplace as bowmen but I don't think they ever took the spotlight, (I could be very wrong here and I'll have to do some more reading again). We are in definite need of more bowmen to get the proportions right and on top of having a suitable quiver to reload we need a free standing pavise for non-battlement crossbowmen to hide behind. Maybe a good figure for a CMF, after of course we get another bowman ;)

I completely agree I have to many crossdowmen with our quivers and it drives me crazy. I don't mind having extra crossbows but I hate having not enough quivers.
