LEGO Ideas results June 2020 - no castle love

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

This morning LEGO Ideas released the results of the latest round. Three new Ideas sets - sorry, no castle love.

Home Alone House - If you're into Town building this will probably be great as it is a very detailed home. Watch an 8-year old boy try to murder two thieves!

Seinfeld - Kind of like the Big Bang Theory and Friends sets - recreation of a key set location with figs of the main characters. It seems like Ideas has a mini-theme based on sit-coms. Hmm, anyone want to design a MASH set?

Typewriter - This one is kind of a "Huh?" for me. Do kids today even know what a typewriter is? Are any of us old folk actually nostalgic for them? I guess it has some sort of working mechanism - there's no video but looking at the pictures it looks like 4 of the little strikers go up and down when you hit the keys.

Looking at the sets they rejected, only one of them was castle at all, a set based on the Legend of Zelda. No surprise that they rejected it as they've rejected several previous Zelda Ideas that got to the 10000 vote mark. It can't be that they can't work out the IP, as Zelda is a Nintendo brand and LEGO just released Super Mario sets. Maybe LEGO already has some Zelda in the works, or they're just looking for the perfect Zelda set. I see there is a large Zelda castle in the next review period. Another set in the next review period is this Castle in the Forest. So maybe some LEGO Ideas love for us in the future. Personally I'm kind of partial to the Project Gemini set in the next review 'cause I love old NASA stuff.

I really don't care about the Seinfeld or the Home Alone ones. Haven't seen the show or movie. Typewriter is cool, I may consider getting that one.

But, more importantly, the Bionicle one didn't pass. Very sad about that.

Hey,

LEGO has posted pictures of an upcoming Nintendo set on various social media:

You get a model of the original Nintendo, and 80's era TV, and you can play Super Mario Brothers. There's a crank mechanism on the side of the TV, and it looks like as you turn it the background is on a conveyor belt and it scrolls past the Mario cutout.

Why bring this up here? Zelda. C'mon, LEGO, you've got this growing partnership with Nintendo. Sure, the Mario franchise is Nintendo's top all-time seller, but the Zelda series has got to be up there. I just googled and found a list of the top 100 NES games and Super Mario 3 was the top one and the original Zelda title was #2. I sure hope the reason LEGO keeps turning down LEGO Ideas sets based on Zelda is that they already have a theme in the works.
