Jake McKee, the community development manager at LEGO Direct has agreed to have a public chat at Classic Castle. 1000steine.de, a German LEGO fan website, recently had a public chat with Jake McKee. The CC admins thought this was a great community activity and invited Jake to have a chat with our members.

The chat will take place in the CC chat room on Saturday January 17th, 2004 at 1 PM Eastern Time (18:00 GMT). We chose this time so that as many of our worldwide members could participate.

Rules

1. The moderators can kick people out of chat or ban them indefinitely if you are break the chat rules.
2. Each person will be called on by a moderator and then will be allowed to ask Jake one question.
3. Jake does not have to answer any question. Remember that he can not answer questions about future product lines.
4. Do not speak out of turn.
5. Please be polite. Do not use profanity.

Thank you to Jake for having this chat with us. Members can direct questions about this chat here and admins will answer them.

Good news :-)

I participated at the 1000steine-chat ... it was fun although it lacked a certain information niveau - well rules weren't clear announced before. Everything was a little bit confusing and some questions about interna weren't excluded and therefore "wasted" - glad to see, you made clear rules.

May I suggest, everyone prepares his/her question in an editor and just copy&past it? That will save time an maybe everyone could ask more than one question.

And a - maybe European - question: What timezone does the CC-Forum have?

Hi Coyote,

The forum time is based on Eastern Time in the US. So if you are in Europe, your time will be 5 to 7 hours ahead of the chat time. I hope that helps.

I dont think we will have time for more than one question, but I do like your idea of having questions ready.

If somebody will not be participating in the chat, can they leave a question here for an admin to ask during the chat?

Also, I'm just curious - I read the other chat transcript - what is the purpose of this chat? We cannot get any information about upcoming products, the only thing we will get is "2004 will be a banner year for Castle". Any other company-related topics were already answered in the German chat that was done recently.

It's cool that he is agreeing to talk with us and it's cool that we can talk with him, but it just seems as if everything he could possibly say has already been said.

I dont know yet. This might be ok, but I would like to talk to all of the admins first.

The chat has many purposes. A main one, as you have guessed, is to help castle fans communicate with the LEGO company. Even if we can not get new set information we could:

- ask questions about current sets
- talk about involvement with LEGO for fan displays
- give constructive feedback on products
- express how we feel about the castle theme - what we think it is
- talk about where we as fans would like the theme to go, etc

It is true that many questions have been answered in the other chat. But a large proportion of CC members do not speak German. It will be nice for us to communicate with Jake. In addition, I am sure people will bring up some new questions that others have not thought about.

I hope not :D New discussion is good, in my mind. Lets just see what happens.

Very cool. Will a transcript of the chat be archived on cc.com?

Hi Bruce,

Yes. We intend to cut and paste vigorously and compile a transcript. I think we will post it on the website somewhere.

I'm very glad you'll be making a transcript. I have to work on Saturday and don't know if I'll be able to be there much, if at all.:(

Hi.

Question:

Say the one question someone asks is misinterpreted by Jake. Does the inquisitor get a chance to redirect?

I understand this could get out of hand. Especially if Jake is being intentionaly evasive on a subject but could we, maybe, ask the admins privately somehow about attempting to clarify?

Also has anyone told Jake that we will be preparing these questions ahead of time? He seemed to get a little irritated when the same questions came up repetedly during the 1000steine.de chat.

Thanks
C

Hi Christopher,

I am not sure if we will have time for questions that are missinterpreted. The admins can discuss this.

The admins reccommend that CC members think of several questions. This way if one of your questions are answered, then you can ask a different one.
