Automotive Paint
Has anyone tried using automotive paint for repainting armor/weapons/etc.? I would imagine it'd be more expensive, but would hold up as well or better than anything else, and it comes in hundreds of colors/shades... maybe even chrome?

I've never tried auto paint on Lego; however I have used it on regular plastic models, and found that it works quite well, and provides a higher quality(obviously) of finish than regular paint. I would imagine it would work well on Lego, especially if you could match colours. Chrome and Chrome gold paint is relatively easy to find, and cheaply too. You should be able to pick some up for under $3 at Wal*Mart in the spray section.
