More New Factions
Motivated by Jennifer and Jeff, I thought it would be fun to make a new faction too. Of course, I didn't do the actual work. I needed Freak's skills. He's a coat of arms genius, and I thank him.
Anyway, I can't decide which design to use. The choices are:
Blue for everyone:

Red for everyone:

Red with crecent for everyone:

Or a combination of red (without crecent) and blue.
Thanks again Freak.

Without cresent, you know why? You have a cross symbol on that shield which could be interpreted as Christian Crusader type... now why would a Christian Crusader go around marking the Cresent Moon of Islam on his shield? He'd be executed!
BTW, how about stickers for round shields (3x3 or 2x2) radar dishes? You can put a cresent moon on those.

A crescent usually denotes a second son who has the right to bear arms. The lord would have the blazon that would have say - a cross raguly sable on it. Then his firstborn would have the same, with a label across the top, then his secondborn son would have the right to the crescent.
I will start researching WHY they decided to have a crescent for the second born though.

You know.... considering how Christendom can be considered as the "first offspring religion" of Judaic beliefs, you could consider Islam to be the second....LEGOFREAK wrote: JP

If you're going for something more accurate, you can't have a color on a color.
So, your blue cresent can't be on a red field. If you want those colors, try using
a white canton field in the left upper corner with the blue cresent.

The canton field doesn't have to be really big, as in the pic.

I like the blue, I don't know why, but there it is.
I also enjoyed the history lesson on the historical basis for the cresent as part of heraldry.

JP, this sort of comment does not really belong on classic-castle. Sorry, but religious commentary is not castle.JPinoy wrote: You know.... considering how Christendom can be considered as the "first offspring religion" of Judaic beliefs, you could consider Islam to be the second....

After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.

Im talking to Patrick about it. Im sure you and others are able to see how Im relating Islam as the "2nd son" and how that correllates to the use of the cresent as a symbol for a 2nd son. Its not like Im trying to convert you or anyone. And no, Im not a Muslim, I simply have a respect for other religions as well as those who don't belong to any. But just because they don't believe in one, doesn't mean they can tell a religious to shut up about it. And just because Im talking about religion doesn't mean Im trying to coerce you or anyone into believing.wlister wrote: JP, this sort of comment does not really belong on classic-castle. Hi JP,
I think you read more into the post than what was there. Had the second son reference been more clearly stated as a comparison then it would have sounded less like theology. My comment certainly never accused you of trying to convert people and your spiritual beliefs are none of my business. The post sounded like religious theology and I didn't think it was castle-related. No offense was intended.
Back on topic.
Perhaps different soldiers could have different heraldry and the cresent could be part of a lesser lords colors. It would be a shame not to use more than one of these designs.
