I was wondering from the original post if the Ainu people from Japan suddenly got transported to Middle-earth. :D

Soo... the Japanese with their longbows are in the Holy Land, as the Illuvitar's "chosen people"? :?

Ainu aren't exactly mainstream Japanese (it's too long and too off-topic to go into here), but it's an interesting if unintentional meshing if you want to forego that point. I had forgotten that Ainur was a collective name for the Valar and Maiar.

TTK you are a Tolkien fan. Seems you're a gentleman and a scholar! :D

More to topic, I don't see a link. I'm anxious to see what teh Ainunorians look like.

Don't get JP started on things like that. Now, if no-one mentions the kahilawayans, I think we can leave with our limbs attached...where they should be...

Enter the Tolkienologist. (Self-taught, naturally.) Registry #21187 (birthdate).

Where did you post about the British accents? Here at CC?

Its not news to me. And even someone who's only watched the movies ought to know.

And yes, the Ainur (plural, as opposed to Ainu, singular) is a collective name for the Valar and Maiar, as well as those spirits of the same nature who remained outside of Ea, and also to those who, while once Valar and Maiar, are no longer generally counted as a part of those orders, due to rebellion. (That is, Melkor/Morgoth, and his minions, notably Sauron/Gorthaur, the Balrogs, and Ungoliant. Shelob is thus at least partly an Ainu's offspring, as she is of Ungoliant's progeny.)

Since the wizards were emissaries of the Valar, disguised members of the Maiar, Gandalf, Saruman, and Radagast are Ainu, in addition to Sauron and the Balrog, giving us a total of five Ainur who figure into the LR.

There's also Shelob, and Gwaihir the Windlord for Ainu-related creatures.

Sorry about the preachy post. Its Tolkien, I can't help myself. Those of you who are freaks like me know it anyway, and those of you who aren't will forget it immediately. Oh well....

sorry for the double post

here is the original post
My custom faction has great longbow users on horses

Here is a description:
They have big horses and their people are highly trained small elite armies. They use British Longbows and Mongol Recurves. Their religion is very similar to christianity. Their navy is exceptionally good, incorporating things in. There are many groups of them from around the world. They are like the klingons about warrior honor(and no dissing star trek on this board or you'll answer to me)and they are very strong because they have 4 lungs and 2-10 chambered hearts. They are very smart. They are trying to conquer the world and convert everyone. They are unsexist and enviromentally concsious.Their army has a force of 100 called Ainunorian Knights, each one able to take down a whole army. Their food is like asian food and each tribe has their own recipes. They are sort of like a sub-species of humans. Their are 4 types of them one whose color is green and can climb good, one whose color is blue and can swim good, one whose color is red and is really strong, one whose color is yellow and can dig good and is smart. I'm still writing the first book of their conquests.

No offense intended. I am quite aware that people can read this Silmarillion (not the sillmarillion :D j/k!) at age 11. I've forgotten what age I read it at, but I read it a great many times, and it had been quite a few years since my first read-through.

But you have to remember that there are 350 plus registered users here, and who knows how many guests, and most of them probably never have heard of 'Ainu' at all, let alone the Vala/Maia version. I was just sharing some knowledge with time.

So get used to it. If Tolkien comes up, inevitably so with me. It's that simple. (I'm a creature of habit, and that is my habit.)
