Custom parts suggestions...

Post by JPinoy »

If anyone has suggestions for what custom parts can be made, please post them here:

~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll start off:
1) Round Shield (medium sized, same as the Lego version but w/o ripples)
2) Rectangular Shield (not like KK2)
3) Macana
4) Custom Knight Plumes
5) Custom Horse Barding
6) Custom Horse Helmet
JP,
Now this is the thread for this kind of stuff.
I like all your ideas for custom weapons.
Do you have a link to a picture of a macana? I have never heard of one.
I would love to see a broadsword with a fuller. That is a classic sword element that has been ignored for far too long. A wider assortment of pikes and halberds would be great as well. Jeff's stuff is great, but I want even more variety. :D
Good call wlister on the weapons. What about a long bow. not these short little ones that they use now, but the LONG bows of England (if I remember correctly). Elven looking bows.
The Macana is a weapon used by Meso-Americans like the Aztechs and Mayans. They were basically wooden clubs with molecularly razor thin obsidian shards.
Here are two Aztec "Jaguar Warriors", each armed with a Macana.
More helmet designs. And two new battle-axe design: a one-handed version and a halberd version. My younger brother has just got into Playmobil, and the variety of weapons makes me somewhat envious: At least three versions of an "unvisored" helm, such as a regular footman might wear, two different fixed-visor helms, and three or four different movable-visored helms; about three different styles of battle-axes, a pike (as well as a spear), and a morning-star, and many other weapons! Not to mention about three different shields. Oh, well....
YES, YES, YYEESSSSS!!!!! Of all the things possible, this would make the most sense. Available at .30 or less one could afford many.
Considering the new stuff coming out has very few options, this may be an opprotune time for a certain entreprenuer we all know.....
the LONG bows of England
The problem with a long bow is not the bow itself, it's the minifigs: they're just too short!!! Check out Legolas here:
Image
The bottom of the bow is just above his feet. If I made the bow any longer, Legolas wouldn't be able to aim straight anymore and all he will be able to do is to shoot at birds from now on. :wink: Now we wouldn't want that, would we?
Oh, and to JPinoy, that Macana looks very interesting!! But what about the Jaguar warrior headpiece?? Anyone interested in seeing one in Lego form? I can imagine one in my head already though the jaguar shape I'm sure will be a nightmare to sculpt. :P
Ya, you should make one (a jaguar warrior headpiece) it'd be awsome.
My suggestions would be:
A Great Helm,
Better wands,
A mace on a chain thing,
A spiked club and;
Gargoyls or statues of some sort for castles
Im using "Eagle Warriors" instead with that eagle headdress piece, they're also armed with Macanas (using those gray chain saw blades). I'll post a pic of it soon.
But still... see what I and many others who make unique soldier types have to use as a substitute! A chainsaw blade of all things! :lol: Thats why custom weapons makers are important in the Lego community especially for army/minifig collectors.
JP: I've used those chain saw blades for shark-toothed "swords" the jaguar warriors used, as well as the Mayans (my undergraduate thesis was on Mesoamerican culture). I've always wanted to do more. I have used the Islanders as a basis for my Mesoamericans. The big yellow headpiece is quite good for Aztec/Mexican royalty, but not for the soldiers.
I'd like to see gargoyles as well, longswords (maybe thinner but stronger blades would do?), a good Lentil Staff (Roman Centurion's token of office). Of course the GrandDaddy of them all for me would be true Corinthian Greek Hoplite helmets! Also Greek stickers for the large round Hoplite-like shields slash radar antenae? And some mythic creatures. I saw Rene Hoffmeister's centuars at BF PDX. Now how about minotaurs, medusae, cyclops and the like?
BTW, I'm very immpressed with the level of knowledge of ancient miliataria here. This is obviously a well-rounded group of AFOLs.
I wish I had pics to back up what I'm saying. Anyone got anything applicable?
A mace on a chain thing,
I belive you mean a 'flail'
More variations of armour,
a pike
more helmets
i had some other cooler things i will poast when i remember
Actually, that yellow head piece would be just OK on an Eagle Warrior. Check out this sculpture of one...
True the plumes may not be there, but hey its all we have for now. The headpiece that has the colored design pattern could be used for an Aztec/Mayan king, while the regular yellow ones can go on the other troops.
