Greetings Everyone

Post by SML »

Hi Everyone,

New member here to the boards. I am excited to be a part of this great community.

A little bit about me. I grew up with town sets in the late 70's and early 80's and got my first lego "itch" when I was about 7. Every holiday or birthday it seemed that my collection of town sets continued to grow. High School started and so to do my dreaded "dark age". Though my parents had kept my sets from when I was a kid, and I did stop in the toy shops every now and then to look at the new sets, I wasn't really active in building during high school and college. After college, marriage, three wonderful kids, and grad school, I finally saw the light and came out of my dark age. During my youth, I never had a castle set, but in the early 2000's that was about to change.

Set # 10000, the legend series set of the Guarded Inn was an instant buy for me when I saw it, followed closely by set # 3739 - Blacksmith Shop. Those were the hooks that pulled me full force out of my dark age. Since those, I didn't do much MOC-ing, but enjoyed putting the sets together with my then 7 year old daughter. Fast forward to now, another daughter and son later, all 3 kids love to build lego with Dad, and an ever growing collection. I like the modular buildings, pirates, large sets such as the Taj Mahal, and Tower Bridge, but my first love is Castle.

I am in the process of joining a LUG in my area and have already built a small Halloween themed MOC. I can't wait to build more MOC's and see what other great creations so many of the talented builders here continue to come up with.

Hey sml,

Welcome to cc! Isn't it fun to build with your kids? Mine are still at the duplo stage, but my daughter always wants to play with daddy's "little legos". Is your Halloween moc online somewhere - brickshelf, flickr, mocpages? See the FAQ for details about these free image hosting sites.

You picked a good time to come out of your dark ages; the sets in recent years have been getting better and better. And good on you for joining a LUG! There's nothing like hanging out with local Lego fans and vocalizing terms you'd normally only use online (I'll never forget my first LUG meeting where people were talking about SNOT and no one raised an eyebrow). Membership in the Lego fan community definitely has its bonuses. Welcome to CC!

Building with the kids is great. My youngest is right at that age between duplo and the smaller building sets, so his collection consists of a little of both.

I am working on the photography on my MOC and plan to share soon.
