I've been using classic castle for a while now so I though that I might as well join. I admire the castles people build here, and I am trying to improve my own, even though my collection isnt the best. I hope to have a good time here at Classic Castle!

Welcome to classic-castle mate! Have fun, there are tons of great people and builders here!

Don't worry about not having a massive collection with all the pieces you want. The important thing (I think I learned this most from one of our admins, Bluesecrets), is just to have fun with what you have. You can build anything with the pieces you have, and have a blast doing it. I think, that is what is most important about building.

In time, your collection will grow.

Welcome to CC! Glad to have you here. Some advice I always give to people who, like you, note that their collections are small:

-Don't compare your collection to others. Some people around here or on Flickr have literally been building their collections over twenty years or more. There will always be someone with a bigger collection.

-Don't break the bank trying to grow a collection. Instead, buy one middling set a month, like a $20 or $30 one, easily within most AFOL budgets. That will give you time to build the original design, enjoy it for bit, and then modify it, see what other things you could build with just those parts, and finally mix it in with your existing collection. After a year or so you'll find you've got a pretty big collection.

-Bricklink can be an amazing resource, but also addictive. Be careful.

-Watch for sales. Target and Toys R Us have some good deals from time to time. You can sometimes get great deals at closeout stores like Big Lots and Tuesday Morning.

-Build to your collection. When you've got a more modest collection you're not going to build huge full castle layouts (also true if you don't have a lot of floor or table-space that can be dedicated to long-term LEGO projects). Instead build small buildings, siege engines, etc. Don't forget vigs and microscale, or build a miniland-scale figure.

-Mostly, just remember to have fun.
