Might I ask what provoked this? If you are trying to get across that you are unhappy with an administrator, please conduct it in private, or not at all. Actual REASONS would be nice, such as what your "fight" is. This will probably get you banned, you know...

I don't.
Look - I am all for democracy in life, but not in every facet of life. You can't run a ship as a democracy, you need a captain and officers. You can't run a business as a democracy.
And I don't believe you should run a website as a democracy.
I don't always agree with the admins here, I bet they don't always agree with me. :D I do respect them, sure. BUT this is ultimately their idea. Their hard work, time, money, whatever. Why should I think I have equal say as Lenny, Troy, or Tony? Answer - I shouldn't.

My sentiment exactly. If it wasn't for the Admins and Mods where would we be? Just think. Everybody off topic, topics in wrong forums, exc.

It would be utter chaos. Seriously. If it wasn't for Ben's commitment to posting Set Reviews every week who would do it. Most people would say.

"Aww. I'll do it tommorow."

I thnik you should reconsider your "Fight" and think about your beliefs my friend. Before someone else reconsiders them for you.

In real life I prefer kings and queens to presidents and prime ministers.

In the case of this website, where administrators and moderators are the typical mode of running, how would I be any less likely to support it.

Furthermore, Anthony, Ben, Troy, and the others founded this place. It BELONGS to them. Any new admins or moderators, such as Nathan or Bruce (hey! I forgot that includes me too in Gaming...), derive their right to rule from the APPOINTMENT by the previous admins.

They built it, they run it. If you don't like it, get out.

And if you're serious about this, why post it when you know they have the powers to lock and/or delete it?

Currently, this website is run as an oligarchy (that's a monarchy with multiple, equal kings). All of the Admins have an equal say in what goes on, so if something happens to the website as a whole, everyone must be in agreement. In that regard, it is a democracy.

However, as was pointed out, we started this website, and we run this website. We put in the time and effort, so we say what goes on. If you don't like what's happening, you're free to start your own place.

Additionally, if you don't like what's going on, feel free and tell us. While we are an oligarchy, we are also open to any suggestions that are made to improve this website. We started the website as a community website, and thus we like to think we do our best to serve that community.

As a side note - we admins and moderators don't like censorship. We're not going to go around banning people or deleting posts simply because they upset us. As long as you are on topic, which this thread involves the website, and not abusing anyone verbally, we will leave a thread alone.

So if you have problems, please let us know, and we will do our best to help fix them. We aren't mind readers, and we're pretty busy, so the best approach is a direct one.

Hey,

Welcome aboard, GotH. I pretty much just wanted to agree with what Anthony just said (he beat me to it), but will add two things:

--There is much more noise about locked/moved/deleted threads than there are such threads. Go through the history and you'll see that we've actually stopped only a few things - blatantly off-topic threads, hostility towards members or language that is unnecessary in a forum that includes kids, posts solely intended to increase post count, and leaks (maybe a couple of others, but that's all I remember). Otherwise we have occasionally guided threads, pointed people towards the right forum or duplicate threads, etc.

--If you want a completely unmoderated forum, check out alt.toys.lego. Currently there are 8 threads - 5 are advertisements for e-bay or Bricklink shops, one appears to be a non-working link to a site on toy sales, one is about origami (?), and the final one is a link to a porn site. Rec.toys.lego is slightly better. That has 8 advertisements for e-bay or Bricklink sales, the same origami post, the same non-working link to a site on toy sales, and . . . 3!, count 'em, 3! on-topic non-ad posts (one of which starts out "for all of you who don't visit LUGNET"). There is a reason why LEGO discussion has shifted from the usenet towards groups with varying levels of moderation.

You just lost your fight

Threatening the King is unwise. I do not know what your problem was, and now I never shall. I find that I really don't care either...
