Long time lurker, first time poster

Post by psu_ericksen »

Thought I would say "hi" and introduce myself. I feel that if I didn't de-lurk now following CCCII, I probably never would. The nice things being said about my entries have drawn me out. Thank you all. Four Honorable Mentions was quite a surprise!

A little about me...
I'm 31. I've been collecting castle since 1984. My first castle set was 6080 King's Castle. I remember my mom being bummed that there was yet another theme I was interested in. Little did she know that castle would become my main focus and that I would still be building. I always knew, though. Everything I buy, I have castle in mind for the parts.

The mid 90's were mostly a Dark Age for me while I was at school. I built a few things while home on break, but didn't buy any sets. Not that there was anything worth while to buy. I would occasionally stroll down the LEGO asile to see what was going on. :) It wasn't until I saw the Star Wars sets did I really become interested in sets again. My wife (then girlfriend) bought me a SW set before I graduated that ended my Dark Ages. She probably regrets that now. And I wasn't able to build MOCs until we bought a house and I was able to bring my childhood collection home. (I barely had enought room in our apartment to store all the sets I was aquiring as it was.)

My wife's pretty supportive though. Especially since she's seen my MOCs. For the longest time, all I was doing was expanding my collection and she saw it as a waste of money. And now with four Honorable Mentions, she says I should be more involved. Can you believe that? So here I am! I was going to see the MichLUG display at COSI today and maybe say "hi", but it's snowing and I don't feel like going downtown. So next time...

Sorry if this post is long. I've never posted anything before. I have been lurking so long, I feel like I know a lot of you. But you don't know me from nobody. So it's kinda weird. So many times I wanted to join the discusion, but never did. Not anymore. I don't plan on being a "gong farmer" for long.

Regards,
Sean

P.S. Bob Carney's site was one of the first castle sites I came across while bored one day at work. It almost put me back in a Dark Age, permanently. Thankfully, shortly after that "discovery", the Guarded Inn was re-released (a set that I had always wanted as a kid) and any thoughts I had of giving up we're gone. Plus, so many of you have inspired me, I find that I'm a better builder than I every though possible. Thank you.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for posting. I have to let you know that your mocs are fantastic. The sappers was particularly great with detail and realism. You were definitely one of my top 3 favorite builders in the contest. I will look forward to seeing more of your creations on CC ;)

Welcome! Your lego history sounds a lot like my own except I am one year younger. Your MOCs were superb. Can't wait to see more of your stuff.

Take care,
Josh
