Collecting vintage misb castle sets

Post by ngsimlim »

Hi all!

I have been late in the game but have been collecting the US version misb castle sets for a year now.

Would anyone know if 6067 and 6055 comes with the US box print? I could only find them in the samsonite version or otherwise international version.

Greatly appreciate any advice!

Hi Sim,

I am fairly certain that 6067 only came in the European style box without a piece count and in the Samsonite Canada version. It is my understanding that this set was mainly sold in the US from Shop at Home and limited retail outlets. Other sets like 6011, 6023, and 6055 likely also only have European boxes and were not widely available in the states.

Thanks Ben!

This information was really very very helpful! I no longer had to keep waiting for a box version that didn't exist.

I am just curious if you know of castle polybags during the period as well?

This was in reference to a recent an eBay listing for an archer. I am wondering if there are polybags of other classic castle minifigs?

Thank you!
Sim

I actually do not know much about that polybag in question. The lion printing does look accurate for a circa 1984 figure. Quite a few rare items do not always make it into set databases.

Thanks Ben and apologies for the late reply.

I am almost 65% complete with my classic castle sets in misb. I am wondering if you know of collectors whom I can approach to help me with my quest? My contact is ngsimlim [at] yahoo [dot] com [dot] sg

I would contact misb castle sellers on bricklink or ebay. They often have more sets than what is listed in their inventory. Some sets may not be available in misb condition. There are early Samsonite accessory packs that even LEGO does not have copies of in their vault. However a complete collection of the regular release sets should be possible if you are patient and willing to spend the asking price.

Thanks again for the great advice.

I managed to collect till the current where I am still about 15 sets away.

Including 1680... I wonder if you have seen an MISB for sale or someone you know that might sell it?

Cheers!

Hi Sim,

Congratulations on collecting almost all of the castle sets.

1680 does not come on the market often as it was a UK only release. I am not certain if I have seen a misb copy of it for sale. Personally I am looking for the box for that set. Hopefully you will be able to find a copy.
