That is monstrous! Pretty dang sweet though. Just the board alone is 576 pieces, 9 tiles per square and 64 squares. Then all the people and side decorations. It will be a huge set.

Asterios,

There is no such thing as lego overkill.... except those huge solid lego cubes or other shapes people make. I can see someone being overkilled by one of those.

DNL,

Thanks for the frontal shot of the baddies. I really like the orc (trolls) and trolls (troll-trolls). The mix with skellies and evil wizards is very nice. A perfect evil leader finding the best to do his dirty work. :D

i meant overkill in as a set put out by LEGO,since this set even has more figs and such then any other chess set, also the board design is un-LEGO like and then theres the chess set box which does not appear to be big enough to hold the entire set let alone LEGO's notorious 85% of air in ea. set.

This is one set I will buy and will not feel compelled to keep in one piece. This will be a great army builder and castle builder for me and my small collection of bricks.

Interesting. I'm very surprised Lego made such a huge chess set. It looks quite good, but with everything else coming out this year, I may have to pass on this one. I wonder what the price will be.

The pieces look a little big for the squares though. It also looks a little cluttered to me.

Can anyone tell what the Queen is on the dark side? Is she the witch from the Advent calendar?

Is this the special set we've heard tell of? I hope not, as I'm still waiting for the UCS Neuschwanstein...

This set is great. The board edging is spectacular. The king and queen need to be taller to reclaim their traditional place as the tallest pieces on the board. It would be great to see more detailed photos of the pieces.

Maybe Lego will be easy on the wallet and sell each of the pieces and the board individually and as a collection of sets.

I was wondering that too, and I think it could well be.

Why create a witch minifig just for the advent calendar? I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't the same one here.

Oh, and want. :D

Are some of the forum members working together with Lego to empty our pockets or what? At least there are working some Castle fans at Lego this moment :D
It's is almost unbelievable how many Castle sets are being released this year (and last year) and also the quality is excelent!

Between this, the green groces, and all the new sets that just came out... I guess we'll be on half rations for a while ;)
This one takes the cake though, that's an amazing board, the spaces are bigger and tiled, the pieces are amazing, the elaborate edge is great :D even if it does cost $100 I'll get it, I just have to.

WOW!

What is LEGO doing to us, shockingly awesome set after shockingly awesome set. Are they seriously trying to kill us?
Come on LEGO, at least give me time to catch my breath from seeing the last set's pictures before you release more!

..I have to go lie down...
