They are good people who are just misunderstood. :)

Anti-heroes. Living outside the law, stealing money, fighting the Government, but they have a Code of Honor. They won't kill anyone under the age of sixteen, won't hurt women, and show only peace towards the Forestmen, who they consider allies and brothers, even if the Forestmen themselves think differently. The Western Empire (presently in the possession of King Jonathan Thunder I of Prentika) consider them criminals publicly, although they have, in the past, made deals with them and hired them as mercenaries.

I've always thought of them as outlaws and renegades. I based this on the Old English law of the "Wolf's Head". I figured they had all been declared "Wolves' Heads" and had taken the wolf as their symbol in defiance of the law.

I have always used them as mercenaries, filling whichever side was light on manpower.

They were a great faction, too bad they did not do more with them.

I always treated them as brigands. Not benevolent Robin Hood brigands (which was the Foresters), but real rob-you-at-swordpoint-because-they're greedy brigands. (And yet they were often the protagonists when I played with them. Go figure.)

In heraldic rules all animals in face are reputed bad.

And if the bear is the king of animals in Europa before lion, wolf have a quite bad reputation in scandinavian/germanic world.

So as I need of wolfs hats for peasants I put them some blacks helmets and they are pikeman/archers mercenaries. Sometimes they were rule by a lord or they were more close like medieval swiss, warrior people from montains quite democratic; not good, not bad, they made their job as medieval mercenaries.

its true but I think the wolf has a bad repuatation because they lots of people got hurt by wolf in the medieval time, or in the time before that, so that way some guys used the wolf logo be gain a bit of a thretning style. also if you think about it people wrote novels about werewolfs and not werebears or werelions, so again something wich people feared of right?

and just wondering what do you mean with wolf hats :O

Not at all. Wolf is as today very timorous animal and it wasn't feared in high and in central middle age but more in 14-15 century when wolves became more offensive in a bad context (war, famine...) could made some incursions in city as in "chronique du bourgeois de Paris" were wolves kill peoples in Paris but is after the structure of animal heraldry.

also if you think about it people wrote novels about werewolfs and not werebears or werelions, so again something wich people feared of right?

It's forgotten. Bersekir were often werebears and in pagan world bear had a great status and certainly was a god, it's why midle age church would destroy it, physically and ridicule it, they prefer the lion in king of animals, more antic/biblic and more far so more checking. So bear become a ridiculous animal as in french "roman de Renart" and quite forgotten because bear disappear quickly from most of Europa contrary to wolves who became feared in end of middle age and beginning of modern period. If you are interested read Robert pastoureau book (great historian of middle age specialised in heraldy and symbolism) on the bear if it translated in english.

and just wondering what do you mean with wolf hats

"cagoule" en français (my native language), hood in english

Yes, wolf is definitly a bad animal in our old culture, for my wolfpacks they only had black helmets of 1980 years. I'm interested above all by MOC constructions, if I could made some customs it's not for tommorow. :)
