I don't think its fair to judge this set against 10193 as MMV is clearly an AFOL targeted set. Large numbers of small bricks rather than pre molds keeps the part count up and price per part low.

A more accurate compairson would be to 8877, 7094, and 10176. Beside these sets troll fortress is not a bad deal at all, not great, but certainly on par with other large castles of recent years.

More for me too. :) I'll hold off with my comments until it's built sitting right in front of me.

I can't wait for the new figures, though. The female shaman looks wicked - a must have.

Timber Wolf makes sense, I agree with the above.

I do not feel that the troll fortress is all that bad. I think it comes with a relatively standard number of figures (including new ones), which will be nice to have. Also, the set comes with an interesting combination of dark or earthy bricks, and i could really use more earth tones to compensate for my lack of scenery bricks...

I like the minifigs, and it looks like a good set for parts to expand the King's Castle Siege, but I would like to see something a little darker for the trolls. Lots of brown and black. Something that looks like a it belongs on the top of some forbidding crag.

That is somewhat what I'd imagined it to be. Kind of a fortress on a mountain. I was surprised to see this set have such a large footprint to be honest, I was expecting it to be a taller set akin to some of the Fright Knights sets. I can fix that easily enough on my own though. There does seem to be quite a lot of brick and plate to go with all the 'horns and evil stuff' too, so this won't be bad at all.

It looks a bit bland to me.

Honestly, my biggest beef with this set is that it is so uninspired. I had higher hopes for this given the wacky brilliance of the troll battle wheel, but right now it simply looks to be another high-priced ring fort. In many ways, the incoherence of the overall design reminds me greatly of the Fright Knights line. Considering the price, this is a set that I'm going to opt out on. I'm not a huge fan of the trolls to begin with, but I will give credit where credit is due with some of the more creative sets from last year. This year's sets simply feel like an empty jesture to keep the castle line going for another year.

Hopefully there is better stuff in the pipelines for 2010.

Ah, home sweet home!

:orc:

Is there any interior shots of this yet? Some have some angles where you can just see inside but I'd like to see the main tower's details.

Not that I've found, and I've looked. I'm guessing that you're referring to this set:(http://www.flickr.com/photos/no_onions/ ... 848815036/). It's got some decent interior shots, but I haven't seen anything more detailed at this point.

In my earlier post for this topic, I mentioned my interest in the fortress in relation to the variety of dark and earthy bricks that seem to be involved in the building. Although, before I get to excited for the bricks, I wanted to make sure there were at least a fair amount of those dark grey bricks used in the consrtuction of the set. Are most of the bricks at the base of the fortress dark grey in color, or can anyone clarify the matter at all? Thanks (overly excited for a castle sets release as usual)...

Draconis,

Thanks I had seen them as well. I wish someone had gotten some good inside close ups but such is life.

Brian,

I am not sure if they do or not as the piece inventory has not been released I do not think. Looks to have some though. It also seems to have a great number of the large rocks. I agree will be nice to see what is in it.

Not keen on the price tag either. Perhaps it'll be like the Troll Battleship and get slashed by $15 after Christmas...unfortunately, my wife bought me the TB at cost for Christmas :(

...with these sets, I often forget that its best to wait, b/c the overproduced LARGE sets tends to deflate in market value 6-12 months after their release.
