I had been going to buy this (or at least beg my parents for it), but I noticed that Shop@Home bears no mention of it anymore, nor does any other part of Lego.com (Customer service, search results, "Products", or even the "Replacement Building Instructions" page). It seems that all traces of it have been wiped off their website The only trace of it I can find is that it functions as the preview image for the "Board Games" category in S@H. Amazon sells it at a *cough* "bargain" price of $449.95, and on eBay it can be found for 300-odd dollars . Have I missed something, or has 852293 spontaneously disappeared from retail with no warning what-so-ever? If it has been permanently discontinued, was there ever any announcement of it?
Thanks a bunch, and if a topic (or whatever) about this already exists, then my apologies.
Also, if this turns out to be a total false alarm, then even more of my apologies, and I'm a doofus.

The Giant Chess set was retired a few months back.

It might make a comeback like the tic tac toe set.

I doubt that this is the case. Occasionally, small sets and sets with lower price points do not sell well at stores and are shipped back to Lego to be sold on SAH. Another possibility is finding a few extra palettes of product that you were unaware of. This is much more likely for the tic-tac-toe than the giant chess sets.TheMaster wrote:It might make a comeback like the tic tac toe set.
TLG can choose to make more of any set or bring back any old product, but it is not a common occurrence.

This set is a very good one. Playing Chess with LEGO figures must be pretty awesome. The set has all the Castle figures and that's the best part of it. I would like for one, really.

Oh, okay. Thanks. I hadn't heard about it being retired. Oh well.Username wrote:The Giant Chess set was retired a few months back.
Actually, I think I saw a couple at my local Lego Store, so perhaps I'll check there.
Thank you all for your prompt replies.

The same thing happened with the KK and viking chess sets.
To those who are about to Lego: toss me a few bricks.
