2009 - Many "evil spears" or...?

Post by Albatross_Viking »

(is this the right place to post this??)
I just noticed that TLC have given many "bad guys" from the fantasy era line for 2009 spears,
compared to no spaers for them earlier, ianst that a lil bit starnge? Maybe, they just suddenly began loving spears :)

I have noticed that too. In the king's battle chariot the two trolls have spears and I think there are a few spears in the Mountain fortress. Seems like the designers think that spears look better than the troll swords.

It may just be that no baddy has a single spear in the 2007-2008 lines and they decided it was time to fix that. To be fair 3 out of all the bad guys having spears is not all that big of a percentage. True it’s like 0-3 but with some dozen or so minifigs in the bad factions for this year three is only a quarter. Now if they all were so armed that'd maybe be true...

I always wanted some orcs like those in the chariot set so I am happy with this change.

I like the dark brown spears. I've bought 3 of the KBC so far, mostly because I want to build an orc phalanx. (The new king torsos also make for good non-combatant nobles, such as the king's privy council or something. Just add some dignified heads and you've got the beginnings of a court.)

Those new spears are pretty awesome...that may have something to do with it.

I like they are putting more spears into the sets. I just don't like that they are in replace of troll swords. :orc:

Weapon rotation had been a rock of the 1990s Castle and similar themes, and I am glad to see them starting it up again. Yet I must ask; will the PITCHFORK make the rotation???

Since the pitchfork has not been in any Lego set in 19 years, I doubt we will see it return anytime soon. It is more likely to see new castle accessories or existing castle accessories in new colors such as dark brown.

I think its fine enough that they give some orcs spears instead of swords. Í think its boring when a faction only got 1 kind of weapon.

That's exactly how I feel. The spears are good, but I love those swords, I have about 12 right now.

Off topic. (and I may be wrong but I believe it is a chainmail coif or cowl)

I actually have been thinking about mixing my armies of orcs with shields to be 3/4 spears and 1/4 curved swords. I really like the looks of the orc spearmen.

Mr. Kovach,

I'd rather them keep doing print versions of the mail coif like on this guy.

Since the mail coif (it is also found as mail hood among all sorts of other terms in period sources) often was worn in conjunction with a helmet so you don't want something you cannot put a helmet over.

I equip most of my trolls with the bronze swords, but I also have a "phalanx" with the spears and shields, a few pikemen, half a dozen or so with single-headed dwarven axes, and an elite unit with the greyish swords and shields. My Crownies and undead are similarly divided by armament. So I'm a fan of weapon versatility for any of the factions.

I was never a huge fan of the troll swords, they are poorly scaled for minifigs. I love the dark brown spears.
