The Eight Wizards

Post by gormadoc1 »

This poll is similar to my last one except this time its about all the wizards but not just wizards, you'll know what I mean later, this time there is no year boundry so its the expanse of the whole Castle line except I only found seven whick to my knowledge I believe I'm correct. So I'll keep it short and sweet, just like my last one I would appreciate it if you voted and made a comment. Also I'll keep the description of them short because theres seven people to write about so just a sentence or two because you probably dont want to reac it all, so thats about it, thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefuly vote and write a comment on why you chose that specific magical person, thanks. :)

Majisto is my most favourate wizard because he reminded me of Gandalf at the time (until I made my own version). he was dressed in blue with a blue hat and a torso with a belt and a pouch ;he appeared in sets between 1993-1998. Heres the link for the picture:
http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas249.jpg

Hubble Bubble in my opinion was brought out as a female version of Majisto you could say. She wore a Black hat With a black/red torso and black/red skirt. she appeared in sets between 1997-1998. Heres the picture: http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas215.jpg

The guardian was the worst wizard in my opinion, he only appeared in 8780. He's dressed in brown but with some armor on his torso and he's bald which isnt the best appearance for a wizard because they should have some form of headwear at least and he also has a brown cape. Heres the link: http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas264.jpg

The Wizard from 10176 was never given a name and wasnt the greatest wizard design that lego have made but he does resemble a wizard at least. He wears a plain blue torso with plain blue trousers and a black wizard hat. He only appeared in 10176. Heres the picture: http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas306.jpg

The good Wizard was released in 2007 to rival the evil wizard he only appeared in 5614. He is wearing a plain powder blue top with powder blue trousers that have charms and things on his belt and he also has a powder blue hat that has sparkles on it. The good Wizard is my second favourate wizard, hears the link: http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas363.jpg

The evil wizard is the main enemy of the new castle line but he's only appeared in one set so I'm hoping to see more of him in later sets. He is wearing a red torso and red trouser's with charms on his belt and a black wizard hat with skulls on. Heres the link: http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas326.jpg

The Troll Sorceress is the newest adition to the magical king. she's wearing a bone necklace with a brown torso and a brown skirt with a brown hood and has a staff just like the evil wizards but it has a green bit on the end not blue. She's only appeared in one set so far. Heres the link: http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas421.jpg

The evil witch was released in the 2008 advent calender which makes me think whether TLG are going to incorporate more in the castle line. She is wearing a black top with dark green and gold charms with a black and dark green skirt that has charms on it , and just a plain wizard hat. Heres the link: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=7979-15

Well there you have it small low-down on each of them.

Thanks

Definitely Majisto. He's the only wizard with his own set, a name, and he's from the classic era of castle. His workshop was the only set to survive my dark ages intact and built. It was also one of the first sets I modified (I changed the roof to blue which I felt better suited Majisto, and extended the chimney up much higher and with some crooked bends in it). I really like the guardian as well, he's a close second. The whole fig is great, and less cartoony than any of the others.

There's also the witch from the big castle chess set and advent calendar:

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=7979-15

Tough choices. None of them stand out as really cool to me. Hubble Bubble (aka Willa in the US) is right out, as is the one from 10176 and the Evil Wizard. The others are all cool in their own rights... Majisto is very iconic, but he's a just a little too cartoony for some purposes. The Guardian has a really wonderful torso design, which I think is unique to that figure-- otherwise he doesn't look very wizard-esque. The Good Wizard is a little more realistic looking than Majisto (muted color, more facial detail, and little printed bits), but not ideal. The Troll Hag is a great figure, but it's a little too single-purpose (and doesn't have legs). The Evil Witch is pretty good-- about on par with The Good Wizard, but female and evil.

So, 5 out of 8 are cool. I had to go with Majisto.

I voted for the Evil Wizard (Necromancer?). He just looks, EVIL

I would say the Good Wizard from the chess set (with cape) comes in a close second.

I would say Majisto for third place, simply for nostalgia.

Majesto is the best choice; if only because he was the first. The newer wizards don't really bring much to the formula. I also find that printed beards look out of place under the molded ones. Wizards like the Gaurdian with his sideburns, the wizard from 10176 and the 'Good Wizard' all suffer due to their printed hair (the 10176 wizard could use a bit more printing elsewhere to boot). It's just like minifigs with bangs that hang under their wigs. It makes the hairpiece seem strange.

Still, the best wizard of all (IMO) is Dumbledore. The head is absolutely perfect and adds alot of character. The grey hairpiece is also a nice touch. I would love to see a similar figure for the castle theme.

I have to pick Majisto, with the Evil Wizard as a close second. Those two are the only ones I own anyway. Majisto was the first wizard I ever got, he's got the nostalgia factor going, but I think he also looks the best, as I think the plain old simple smiley head works better beneath the beard than some of the fancier newer faces. I used to think of him more of a Merlin type character than Gandalf (probably because I hadn't read LOTR yet...). I would like to see the new Good Wizard get a bigger part (or role) in the new castle line, i.e. be included in another set or something. And I do like the look of The guardian (8780). He looks more like a hermit character to me, due to the fact that he has no pointy hat.

I would like to see more of the good wizard as well perhaps TLG could create some sort of duel set between the Evil Wizard and the Good Wizard or perhaps just add the Good Wizard in a castle like in 10176. :)

Troll Sorceress by a country quarter-mile. She just has the coolest design, with all the shamanistic gewgaws hanging on her robe, and of course the green lightning wand! And I think she's the most original concept--all the others are fairly plain and predictable fantasy stereotypes, with the possible exception of the Guardian. Look hard enough in the fantasy genre, and you'll probably find something like the Troll Sorceress somewhere...but not everywhere.

Majisto FTW !!! Not only was he cool enough to be the first Lego wizard, he had a cool name, controlled the first ever Lego dragons, and had a glow-in-the-dark wand. He was even on a freaking mug you could get at the Lego stores. Of course, he was also cool enough to have his portrait done by Lord D00M. 8)

I'd rank them Majisto, Necromancer,Good Wizard, Willa, Evil Witch, Troll Sorceress, Guardian, 10176 Wizard.

My personal favourite is the good wizard since it was my first wizard (i went into the dark ages when the first wizard, Majisto, came out) but i also like it the most for its appearance, it looks a bit like Gandalf the Grey.

I voted for Majisto. He was the (and my) first wizard, the first to command dragons, the first to have a glowing wand, simply the first wizard, and my favorite.

I voted for the Guardian, for he came with the trans-neon-green spear, which I loved. His body was also wonderful to part out. The molded beards are infinitely useful, and the torso piece is some of the best chainmail TLC has ever made. His head also makes good use for an old king.

Majisto was nice, but he lacked flare. Willa was nice, especially her spider cape, and her torso is still useful. The two Wizards, don't even get be started on them, the nicest pieces are their hats. I lack both the Troll Sorceress and the Evil Witch, so I can't comment on them. I refuse to acknowledge the 10176 "wizard" because I don't see any reason as to why I should.

If Dumbledore was on there, I'd vote for him. He has THE best torso, leg and head design. McGonagall was also wonderfull too. But they're Harry Potter, so I'll leave it at that.
