I like this set. The more variations I have in jesters, the more I can create a line of jesters competing for a job. Impulse sets are supposed to be about the fig. This is for me. I can't argue with the points others have made, so I won't. I do think it is a nice set for me. Will I buy more than one, of course. But then I'm the one who has 8+ of each of the jester and Harley Quinn.

Good fig, good parts, no wheels. 6/5 for me.
I really love that the set is made up of standard brick and plate. Not that I hate wheels, I just have more than I need right now. I'll probably get two, one for me and one for the boys because it is after all, just a jester. Now if it were a mounted knight with a barding....

If I judge this set by what exists and not what I wish would exist, I think it is one of the most spectacular castle fig impulse sets of late, outdone only by the Knight perhaps. I too can see it being dropped amidst an MMV layout, and in fact I may do that very thing if I choose to pick one up.

I'm looking forward to getting this one, I like the fig, and I like the little stage. As others have mentioned, it's good to see some civilian-focused castle sets, I'd love to see this as part of a bigger set, maybe a medieval carnival/circus?

The one word that keeps snagging in my mind is "was." Has this set been released? Someone posting on Brickipedia (http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/2010) seems to expect that this set will be released this month. But I cannot find any reference on the Lego website indicating that it actually has been released.

After doing a bit of googling, it seems nobody knows, but everyone is itching to get there hands on them. But! While googling I came across a EB topic. The new impulse sets are now available for Austria at S@H. Here's the links:

But even though these sets are available in Austria, they did give us a little more info on them with piece count, description, and a good High Quality Photo.

EDIT: It seems that the Wizard doesn't have its printing on in the photo.

Is it Aristotilian empiracism: how does this set rate to those that actually exist? Or is it Platonic idealism: how does this set rate in comparison to the non-existant ideal set?

Both have their problems. Aristotle's way is hard to define: do we limit it to those sets available on the retail market or all the sets ever made? And it could set the bar too low, giving a crummy set a high rating because it the other sets are terrible. And it leaves us no room to speculate how it could be better. Plato, on the other hand, will never be satisfied, because the set can never live up to that unobtainable ideal, but that method will likely encourage more improvement. Though, I must say the MMV was about as ideal as they come...

Personally, I'm a fan of Plato's idealism.

I disagree Steve, I think that until I can actually buy this non-existent ideal set, I will rate sets against their existing counterparts this includes anyting that's not in production anymore, because there's still plenty of ways to get those, so in essence every set ever made is still "available".

Very disapointed in this set being the weekly set review. This set is not offically released as of this posting (not even a picture or inventory on bricklink, for that matter). 232 (minus the 4 incomplete kingdom set listings, per bricklink) LEGO castle sets to have as "weekly set reviews" and you choose a set 99.9% of us can't even get our hands on? In my modest view, it's almost overcompensating for this sites position on "leaks" (that we all see and discuss on other fan sites).

Wouldn't a pinned topic of this set be more relevant, after it is in general release, a couple months from now be more appropriate?

I'll save my final opinons on this set until it's in my hands. But yes, I like the box art, and will be buying!

This set is currently available in the some European market's Shop at Home pages:

Once a set is on Lego.com and TLG is selling it somewhere in the world, it is a current product and no longer a leak. As we know from previous Castle impulse sets (ie: Good Wizard), this set may not be available in all markets. That being said, it does not make sense to wait to review the set because it likely will not be sold everywhere.

As others have said it's not the most impressive set you will ever see, but that's not the point in impulse sets anyway. For me the sheer existence of a civilianish* set like this is a cause for joy. Non-military life gets another chance with Lego Castle. Put this jester's stage into your Mediaeval Market Village and have your peasants enjoy some fun!

*) Civilian-ish: The jester likely bears the colours of the Kingdom he's a subject to. Thus he is kind of in uniform.
