For pure parts, Creator sets, especially the houses.

For people and parts like arches I've often found that the sets in the $6-20 range when you buy in multiples have the best range of usefulness.

I just got the Harry potter set.. The Burrow - set 4840. I know it looks like a rustic doll house.
But it has some good pieces to make custom houses to go in a medieval village. There's lots of brown and some dark brown pieces including log pieces.
New dark red roof tiles, and alot of the new dark flesh coloured pieces. There are alot of the newer colours dark red and dark flesh coloured basic pieces 1 and 1x2's. If your a fan of those colours.. this is the set to get.

The figures have some great new parts aswell. Ginnys hair could suit a young maiden. Bellatrix's hair could be good for a dragon maiden, witch or warrior woman. You could use her torso aswell if it wasn't in flesh tones.

I'm lurking at the creator house with dk blue roof bricks, thinking it's a good parts/price value and I think I'll need some sooner.

Also, an old 7419 (Orient Expedition big set/game) box has been dug over at a toystore, but it is still at 100€, the parts selection is very nice, I will try to get it for fewer, but wonder how much it is worth?

As far as castle sets for great parts the Medieval Market Village is fantastic, and I've been told that the large PoP set is also quite good. Any of the large buildings (Grand Emporium, etc) are also great for bulk parts in nice colors.

However, if you are just looking for specific parts to bulk up your building pile, I would actually suggest at least checking BrickLink. While the MMV has an excellent parts-to-price ratio, you might not want all those light blue bricks, in which case the 'use-ability' of those parts you are paying for is much lower than you might think/want, increasing the price ratio of the parts you are looking for.

Just some thoughts!

After just putting together my Prince of Persia Quest against time set.. 7572.
This seems like a good set if you need a good selection of dark grey/blue bricks to build rocks. There are lots of different kinds of slope and a heap of cheese pieces in dark grey and quite a few tile pieces aswell.

Has anyone had any luck getting a lego store to actually order a specific $70 case of pieces? I live close to the new Lego store in Columbus, OH and have asked two or three different employees on my last few trips there about ordering a box of a specific part. They all seem to say the pieces show up at random and no one really orders them. Anytime they do have a decent castle piece on the wall, they only see to have "just this one case" which is always in a wall bin. But hey, they always offer me a box of 2x4 orange bricks, 1x1 lime green bricks, or 1x8 red tiles...

I haven't personally ordered a box of specific pieces, but was at a Lego store getting a couple of cups of bricks and saw someone come in and said they were picking up an order. The employee went into the back and came out with 3 sealed boxes for him. After he left, I asked the employee and he confirmed that the store ordered it for him at $70 a box.

I'd definitely check out the Medieval Market Village. It's got a great assortment of figs, accessories and basic bricks/slopes etc.

I don't have this set, so can't say from first-hand experience, but if you want something mid-eastern, check out the Battle of Alamut:

Yea a friend of mine has the Prince of Persia set and it has a nice selection of white and gold pieces, some of the figs and capes can be used for custom castle figs, and two gold-silver daggers. ~KnightMan~

I just picked up a couple copies of the joust, and it is a great set for parts. While not as cheap as random bulk bricks on ebay, and at the risk of stating the obvious, it has a lot of really good castle pieces. I even hope to pick up a couple more later in the year. Though I need to save some money for the LOTR sets, which also look great for parts :D
