Which kit for parts?

I started buying small lots of miscellaneous. Castle parts at auction but I'm now wondering if I would be better off buying kits for parts. Which kits would give me thebest assortment of parts for moc

Large castle sets usually have the best pieces for mocs.

6080 King's Castle was one of the best for pieces:

I agree with Ben's suggestion. Large castle sets give you the most bricks for castle MOCs. This is great for assorted parts like arches, slopes, and modified bricks. For the walls and bulk of castle building I would recommend the following.

If you have a lego store near you try to pick up a full case of 1x4 light bley bricks. At $70.00 USD you get around 1350 bricks. Light bley 1x4s are available on pick a brick walls right now and most castles are a lot of light bley. For the price these go a long way.

Just went to the Dallas, TX Lego Store, and it didn't have the 1x4 light bley bricks. Must be up to the individual stores. Just FYI, great heads up post though!

I'd definitely check out the Medieval Market Village. It's got a great assortment of figs, accessories and basic bricks/slopes etc.

I don't have this set, so can't say from first-hand experience, but if you want something mid-eastern, check out the Battle of Alamut:

im going to have to check into the full case deal, can you buy a full case of 2x8 also ? can you order it online ?

I would not recommend buying a case of larger bricks like a 2x8. All lego cases are the same size so the smaller the brick the more you can fit inside the case. It seems to me that any bricks larger than a 1x6 or 2x3 are cheaper to buy from bricklink. Basically once I get over 6 studs on a brick I go to bricklink. Just about any size plate seems to be a great deal in the lego cases.

I don't think you can order a case online but I have never tried either. I have always bought mine at my local lego store. I would definatley try to meet the person responsible for ordering brick for the pick a brick wall at your local lego store. They might take requests for brick if they know you are going to buy a couple of cases. They also can tip you off as to what is currently available.

I agree with Frank Loyde Knight. Basically all of those Modular Houses sets are great for pieces. The piece counts are incredibly high. The Emporium is possibly the best of them all as I noted in that thread I wrote...

The answer to you question is difficult. Bricklink sometimes takes a while to sell parts. You are waiting for someone to want and need them in the quantity you have at the price you have. Some stores have a good turn around, some stores do not. The more rare the parts you are putting up on bricklink, people might go looking faster. But are the figs rare?

I'm not sure how much you'd get back, but I believe that you will get a better return if you do this sooner rather than later. As figures from the Kingdoms line become more common, their value will start to drop (as will demand for them). Consider that the new King and Princess figures are being listed at over $10 at many stores. Many common soldiers are going for around $4 and the Knights with breastplates are selling at $8 or so. Compare these prices with figures from the Fantasy or Pirates II themes. While there are still a few special figures to be had there (The Queen, Golden Knight, etc.), the prices for most figures has dropped dramatically. It isn't unreasonable to expect to pick up basic infantry for about $2.50.

Parting out and selling off the extra figs and accessories isn't necessarily a bad idea, but it will require patience. As a frequent Bricklink purchaser, I find myself somewhat reluctant to purchase from an unknown seller. You may find that traffic at your store is lower when compared to the larger sellers.

I'm also interested in what are good sets to get for castle parts - I currently have the new King's Castle and MMV is on its way, I'm planning on picking up the rest of the Kingdoms sets and 7572 Quest Against Time - Any older castle sets I should look into getting? Looking at some of them on bricklink they don't seem to cost too much.

For those who want old grays and espescially arches, I would recommend 6090, it doesn't seem very desirable, so prices are often not very high.
It has great round barndoors and little ones too, sliding fence (portcullis), lots of basic parts, many blue hinged plates (for forestmen), lots of weapons and shields, a ghost, a skellie, a king and red knight, a 48x32 raised baseplate (unique to this set) three horses (one brown), a chest... See what you can part to sell.
Sometimes people on ebay sell parts sorted by colour, this can be a good way to go, but beware, sometimes prices get sky high dimensions on very desirable colours, and the deal is not as good as if you bought exacly the same quantity, but just among many other random ones. This is very true especially for the old gray ones.

I really think it's depends on what you are after
For large quantity of normal bricks I think you can find a lot of the creator sets are very useful and pretty cheap to they're content. Also most of the sculptures. Depends mostly on what colors are u after, castles don't have to be gray:)
