Flat Silver Sword in Prison Carriage Rescue

Post by Username »

Saw this post over at EB about a 'messed up sword color':

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.p ... ntry752746

As I was messing around Bricklink today I noticed that Flat Silver was listed as an alternate in Prison Carriage Rescue. I check the swords that came in my PCR sets and got 1 out of 3. I compared it to my Flat Silver KKII/Viking sword and the colors match spot on. So check your swords, as you may have a different color!

I noticed this. I thought maybe it was just because the older swords had lost color, but looks like that is not so. I like this flat silver a lot better than pearl silver. Gives a better shine and, to me, is more realistic.

Those links you've posted have me jumping all through the internet. Would it be possible for you to photo the sword in question next to a couple of "normal" swords? Something with good detail and lighting would be nice. Thank ye. :)

My only Carrage Rescue also has a 'flat silver' sword, I was about to post it.
I think it acctually looks better than the 'real' silver sword that we got earlier.

Upon inspection, I too have the 'flat' sword color, but this one came in Knight's Showdown. It's an interesting color, not sure if it was on purpose or another quality issue...

Hello!

I just compared the swords from my recently acquired sets 7949 and 7950 with older swords from the previous Castle line. If you don't hold the both of them right next to each other you wouldn't think the new swords were different from the older ones. In fact there seems to be a difference, as the new swords are slightly more steel-blueish than the former ones, and the older swords seem to have a more pearly hilt. But that could as well be an unintentional variation due to production issues.

I guess, the person who did the inventories on most of the new Kingdom sets didn't even think of identifying the swords' colour as different from the older swords, I sure wouldn't. That's why the swords in these sets are called "pearl grey" instead of "flat silver". Only the person who did the inventory on 7949 seems to have suspected a difference.

I got this set, and I noticed that my sword was a slightly different shade. Cool.

It would appear that LEGO has made some 2010 running changes to the sword element across all sets containing it. I just opened a new 7079 Drawbridge Defense purchased from TRU with the flat silver color sword. I think the plastic used is a little more pliable and soft too, same feel goes for the scythe element.
7079 also had the new flame design without the twin mini-pegs, so it looks like the changes took effect around the same time as development of the new Kingdoms line and all sets from 2009 calender year that carried through to 2010 have changes in color and part style.

After buying 4 copies of Prison Carriage Rescue, I've looked at all the swords from them. And oddly enough, one is plain out flat silver, another is sort of flat silver, and the final two look like a hybrid of pearl silver and flat silver.
