"You are far more powerfull..."
"You are far more powerfull..."
I know I don't post much around here, but I have to share this.
Kingdoms set #7955, the Wizard, includes a decorated 2 x 2 tile depicting a scroll with a picture of a dragon and the words, barely legible at that scale, "You are far more powerfull [sic] than you would ever imagine."
Is it just me, or is that awesome? Think of all the kids who will get this set, maybe with their own allowance money since it is, after all, an impulse set costing only a few dollars, and read those words and take them to heart. Kids need to hear that they are powerful (spelled correctly or not), need the encouragement that comes from knowing that they have the ability to make things happen. What a great message for TLC to sneak into an otherwise straightforward impulse set!

Re: "You are far more powerfull..."
I actually think a lot of kids would read the lines. I didn't get really interested in LEGO as a kid till I was 11 or 12, and I would most definitely have paid attention to what was written on the tiles at that age. For some reason this saying always reminds me of Harry Potter, but I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just that it's in a wizard set?
It seems like one of those trite little sayings that adults are always telling to kids, similar to "You can do anything you want" (in terms of careers, accomplishments, activities, etc., not in terms of staying up all night eating cookies). But eventually I think the message can sink in.... it just might take awhile. But then don't even get me started about all the kids who go to college thinking they can be anything they want, and then major in art history and can't get a job.... okay, sorry, I'm starting to sound a bit like my father there...

I disagree with that too. Of course little kids would read that. When a four year old is wanting to learn to read, (s)he wants to read everything (s)he can.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Hello!
While of course I think children need encouragement, I also think such pep talk is merely a hollow phrase. Better than telling the kids they can do whatever they want (and when they've grown up they learn: Hm, I can't.) would be preparing them properly for life, give them good education, teach them things they need. This way they can really do whatever they want to and are more powerfull than they would be without schooling. Just telling them so doesn't help much, I guess.
Also, it would be sad if children were dependant on some toy company to encourage them. There should be people in their lives.

As far as I am concerned it is just you.Karalora wrote:Is it just me, or is that awesome?

This is just the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put.

Not that my grammar is ever perfect, but the inconsistency in the tense really grinds in my ear: "are" against "would"... Arghhh! As my eyes are getting too old to bother reading brickscript anyway, I just pretend it's a recipe for conjuring dragons -- eye of toad and chicken scales sort of thing.

Re: "You are far more powerfull..."
I personally thought the tile was a little strange. I wondered if it was directed toward the wizard of if it was directed toward the person playing with the set. I think I'm probably with JoJo on this one though. Children need encouragement, but there's no sense in inflating egos.

Re: "You are far more powerfull..."
I never really read it as directed at children... Though now that I think about it, it seems kind of silly to be directed at the wizard. Personally, I'd have rather they dispensed with an actual language and just tossed is some runic script like on the first wizard's tile. Or perhaps put it in code for people to decipher, like the hieroglyphs...

I think it's a little pretentious that a toy built upon user imagination is doubting our capacity to do so .Karalora wrote:"You are far more powerfull [sic] than you would ever imagine."

lego haven't got a spell checker
Re: "You are far more powerfull..."
Does anybody know why the scroll says: "there are no danger greater than the evil dragons" in the lego shop:
http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=7955&LangId=2057
Is this a new version, since the first one had a spelling error or is it just an old image?
I guess it is just an old image since the legs has no prints.

I think for some reason they just still have photographs of one of the preliminary mock-ups for the set on their site. I also just noticed that if you zoom in all the way in the photograph in the link you sent, you can actually see the thickness of the paper sticker glued to the tile. Where in the final set the scroll is painted directly on the tile.

Re: "You are far more powerfull..."
Hey,
I know this is dredging up a very old topic, but I just saw this picture on Flickr:
If you look close, you may notice that the word powerful is correctly spelled. Did LEGO at some point correct the misspelling? I don't see any evidence on Bricklink of two versions of this tile, but it may be so subtle that no one noticed. Or did this person alter the tile (either physically, or in Photoshop)?

Re: "You are far more powerfull..."
If they corrected it with photoshop / Gimp, they did a dang good job of it. I can't see any blemish even at high resolution.
Guessing that TLG fixed it and it was either not noticed or insignificant enough not to be categorized separately on BL.
