What lego castle sets would you recommend for someone?

Depends on what youre looking to build. A castle? An Army?
Also: I assume you mean sets that are currently available?

I think you should get these sets, bro. These are the only castle sets I had when I was a kid and before I turned into a freak like all these 'AFOLs' and started needing the entire collection. It's weird I had so much fun with a few sets and now I have like every castle set released from 2007 - 2009 and I don't really care about them.. :(

It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want to build a village get the medieval marketplace it has alot of amenities but is not very soldier oriented. If you want current then I would hold off until June-July for the new sets. There will not be any really good fortress sets coming out at that time though. Check out the thread on New York Toy fair for more details. !! Just my opinion !! In my opinion I would not get the castle that is currently available ( It is a good classic castle) . You are better off going on ebay and looking for an older castle though. The older castles have more features with peronality !! Just my opinion !!

If it's in your budget, Medieval Market Village. It's a superb all-round set. It has a great assortment of basic building bricks, as well as some nice specialized pieces such as cows and fish. In this forum, it was voted as the best castle set of all time, and is destined to be remembered as a classic. It would be hard to go wrong with this set.

If you are looking to build a village, go with MMV. It's perfect.

However, if you want a newer/more military related set that's pretty cheap, here I go again boasting it, Kingdom's Prison Carriage Rescue. Comes with 3 minifigs, a horse, and some neat other parts. :) I already own 7 of them, and I don't plan on stopping there.

If you plan on seriously building or collecting castle sets get the current sets first. They are great for starters and the price will go up quite a bit once they are off of the shelves. Medieval Market Village will not be available forever and I would suggest getting it before it is gone as well.

If you are going to be more casual about LEGO castle then I suggest just looking through the sets and pick out whatever tickles your fancy. Most older castle sets tend to be more expensive and you will get less bang for your buck.

Although I would agree with the smaller sets on the new caslte series being good for starters, I can't quite agree on the castle (but it is good if you are looking for the typical old casle look it is still priced rather high though). If you plan on really getting into lego castle alot of the older castle sets you can get off of ebay for alot cheaper than the new castle. Although they will be used and you do have to do alot of looking around for the right bid but you can pull it off fairly easy. It all depends on just how much you plan on getting into the castle theme and what you are looking for. If you want a historical castle theme the current like will suit your fancy if you want more of a fantasy based theme look at the older themes. if you go to brickset and look at browse then castle you can look at the whole line of castle that has been created to date.

I am a castle newbie here and i personally found the current castle (my first) to be an enjoyable build. I quickly realized it was too small for my tastes so I bought another and a few bricklink orders later I had what I wanted. The MMV is an incredible build that really helped me learn alot and I was happy with the value for the money I spent. I also enjoyed building the prison tower rescue set, but it realy seemed overpriced to me and the overall look seemed a bit muddled. The current outpost attack was also a fun little build.
