Fellowship: The fellowship looks good and much better than the earlier poster. The use of the highlander sword works well for me. Boromir looks much better now. His shield and cloak really make him stand out. Too bad LEGOlas can't have a quiver or a cape. The hobbits are perfect. Gimli's axe is ginormous! (easily fixed) His helm is incredible. The lack of a staff for Gandalf is nutty. A bar for a staff? Atleast his torso is printed. The beard looks like it may have some hair around the sides? I hope so (because) without some hair in the back it will not look like him. He is the most important character across all 5 movies and he only gets a new beard? I cannot express how disappointing the Gandalf fig is to me. Please make a staff mold for him.

Overall things are looking pretty good.
I agree completely. Gandelf wouldn't be Gandelf without his long flowing hair. "Nutty" is a good word to describe the staff, but I think that we should wait and see if they are really going through with a bar piece, as I said in a previous post. When I first saw the (leaked) images of the sets, I was not happy with them, but once someone informed me that the sets usually turn out different from the first beta version, I'm willing to give the them a second chance (though I'm still upset that my two favorite themes are no more).

I really like those orcs, gotta get some of those. The fellowship is great too, ok gandalf is a bit off and Gimlis axe is way too big but other then that great.

Thanks for the pictures.
Boromir looks much better here, but in my opinion he still doesn't look like... Boromir in the movies.
Gandalf remains disappointing: he doesn't have anything special: he looks like a fig we can do ourselves withe the parts we have. I don't know: he misses something.
I like the rest of them, they can improve them but still they are ok. I like Legolas hears a lot. I like also the baddies.
Gollum is nice too.

Yep, I believe you are right. Good! Now that ear & hairpiece can be used on the Fantasy Era trolls.

I have to absolutely disagree with you about Boromir, I have all the time disagreed about Boromir minifig looks. I think he resemble the most of the characters from the movie. The minifig face is pretty close to Sean Bean, but others have said the hair color is off. :)

But then I agree that Gandalf is a huge disappointment, not that his bad but yea he misses something and the color on his clothes is wrong. It should be more blue grey like. Baddies are good, gollum is a second disappointment.

I wonder what the trolls look like.

Thanks for finding the pictures of the "baddies"! I have to say that I'm most excited about them, because I can integrate them into my orc horde from the Fantasy line, whereas the fleshies aren't as useful to me. I think the people over at BrickArms/BrickForge (I don't remember who makes what) are going to be a little annoyed at how close the new Uruk Hai weapon/shield resemble the ones that they've been making for a while.

Anyway, I'll definitely be buying battle packs and probably looking to trade fleshie hands/heads for yellow ones, if anyone is interested in such a trade. I'll post a thread in the B/S/T forum when the time comes.

Cool pictures. I'm not sure I like how detailed the faces for the orcs are compared to the Fantasy trolls.

Nah, while they look close to our goblin shield and goblin sword, we are looking forward to doing what we have been doing since day one......"Fill in the gaps". I see a need for people to have a proper staff for Gandalf, A more accurate bow for Legolas, better swords for Aragon and Boromir, and I don't see a Sting for Frodo in which case BrickForge offers the Rogue Biter which looks very much like that sword and is available in both metallic colors and trans light blue or even glow in the dark if you prefer.

These figures keep looking better and better (much to my relief). LEGO will hear no complaining from me. I like them all.

That's true, I hadn't thought of that.... Oh well, we'll see what they look like mixed together when the sets actually come out :)

Okay, I am now really ready to see the Rohan guys, the new horse, and the cave troll all up close and in HD.

Gimli looks awesome, his new beard looking very nice. Gandalf doesn't look half bad either, but I wish they made a new staff mold. Oh well, can't too picky. I'm not a big fan on those hobbit hairs. Anyway, these sets are awesome and I will start collecting them. All I need now is the money.
You've got to ask yourself one question,"Do I feel lucky?" Well do ya, punk?

After seeing the new pictures on Eurobricks today of the figures, I have say that I am of two minds. I am very excited to have a Fellowship, and most of the figs look good. That said, Gandalf without a real staff, really LEGO? Also, the gollum and orcs look way too cute and not nearly nasty enough. The orcs have this keebler elf feeling to them with those really big ears, and gollum looks like he wants a hug, not to bite your finger off!

The sets are pretty cool, I am sure I will have them all at some point. The prices are not as bad as I thought considering the piece count and new mold items. Makes me think that some of the new headpieces will be from China and come in those little plastic bags inside the plastic bags inside the plastic bags. I think round two will be even better, as they will have more time to create the sets.

Looking at "Gandalf the Grey," who else thinks that we will be seeing an inevitable new "Gandalf the White" figure in the future complete with new long hair piece & beard combo, and a new staff as well? It seems like they might be spreading the cost of new molds at least into future series, as well as new reasons for LOTR fans who only want the figs to keep buying into the future. They've done a bit of this in the SW line.

That's very possible.
