Best bricklink order ever?

Post by DaleDVM »

Ok, so I am ordering a christmas set from Brandon's AZ Bricks on bricklink. I see he has a castle set for sale so I checked it out. After all shipping is better when spread out over more LEGO. He had a Knights challege 1584 for sale for $60.00. It said in great condition with all parts and instructions but no box. However, that was less than half of the price of the next competitor. I worried there might be a problem with it. Well... I wanted the holiday set anyway so I took the plunge and ordered both.

I opened the ziploc bag and everything looked in perfect condition. Even the white princess fig still looks white. All printing is perfect and clips on the barding. But one thing seemed funny. It looked like too many parts. Then I noticed a third piece of barding and another smaller set of instructions.

So I started putting things together and sure enough there was another complete set included in my order! A twin-arm launcher 6039 was included as well. :twitch: It also was in perfect condition. The instructions for both sets have some wrinkles and a small tear but otherwise the pieces are literally perfect. I would guess these were never even played with or allowed to sit in sunlight. I don't really ever expect to be so positively surprised by anyone, but I thank Brandon for the best Christmas gift I have gotten in years. :D

Here is hoping the holidays treat my fellow castlers as well this season!

Quite a lucky grab you got there! I can only wish that my next BrickLink order could be a mere fraction of the luck you got with yours! :)

Happy Holidays to you as well!

Yes, I guess I should have more accurately titled this the luckiest bricklink order ever. An excellent condition 1584 is $130 and a an excellent condition 6039 is around $20. Both for $60 was quite lucky. I must have been good this year.

Well that's pretty awesome :)! I've also recently been quite lucky ( about 8 weeks ago) when buying 320 castle figs(in mint condition) when i received em it turned out to be a lot of 371 figs instead :), i guess i won't ever top this sadly.

That might have been better than my order. Gotta love getting extra LEGO for the money. Are you making armies?

Well i'm more of an army builder but right now it's just about getting as many figs as possible and assembling large armies later on, the sad aspect is that since i'm often going for large torso/minfig parts lots(even faded/damaged ones) that i find myself having a huge deficit in headgear(castle themed). So setting up armies right now isn't really an option yet.

I was wondering the same thing. Isn't this a bit dishonest? Odds are that the seller will let you keep it to avoid a hassle, but you still ought to let them know. Or not.

My first thought when I read the original post was that the seller made a mistake, especially if no note was included and nothing was communicated online about the extra set.

Yes I was wondering exactly the same, cause it was a whole twin-arm launcher 6039 set. The seller would be really too genorous just to give out free sets with orders. I would contact the seller about the mistake, cause I may still have the set on sell in his bricklink thinking he has that set somewere. Think about it if it was the other way, your order were missing something wouldn`t you contact him then about it?

Wow that took a turn I wasn't expecting... I feel so dirty...

Yes, I contacted the seller. I also thanked him very politely for the extras. :halo:

He doesn't seem to be a big seller on Bricklink. He had 20 to 30 sets on sale there. No parts selection. I think he was just trying to get a bit of money for older sets. His prices on all of the sets were below normal asking price. I imagine he is trying to get rid of them all quickly? The twin arm launcher was not on his bricklink inventory or I probably would have bought it as well. I took all the castle he had available.

I don't mean to bump this thread. Someone on CC let Brandon know about this thread but he had technical trouble joining CC so he couldn't reply in person. Besides his kind words he put the following in an e-mail for me to post.
I got married in November, and we needed more space and money. I decided to sell off as much of my LEGO collection as I could, and I would keep a few items from what did not sell.

I had about 30 sets total to sell, and I wanted to sell them quickly to free up the space faster instead of waiting to get the maximum price for each set. That is why my price listings were lower than the competition; I deliberately positioned myself as the lowest price option for the complete set on Bricklink. I put up the smaller sets like the twin-arm launcher only on Craigslist because I didn't want to sell something that would be almost as much in shipping as its base cost on Bricklink.

The launcher set was stored in the same container as the Knight's Challenge set, and at that point in time, it seemed better to include both sets than to sort through the pieces to separate them. When I was younger, I would always build them together, so I thought of them as the same set in some regards.

I attribute the good condition of the sets to storage in Tupperware and a generally clean household with no pets. Also, my habit is to disassemble a set very soon after assembling it because I like building them over and over. Those sets got plenty of use, but they got very little display time, so the sun and dust did not get to them as much.
It seems he was able to sell off what he wanted. I checked back at his store and none of the sets are left there now. I am sure anyone who was able to pick up a set from him counts themselves as lucky. His LEGO sets truly were in impeccable condition. I want to thank him again for his kindness and generosity.
