Re: Favorite classic Castle set from these nine.
This may help people out a little:
I know this might be in violation of the TOS to have this many images linked, but you can't really do a poll like this without pictures
6073 Knight's Castle
6074 Black Falcon's Fortress
6080 King's Castle
6077 Forestmen's River Fortress
6075 Wolfpack Tower
6082 Fire Breathing Fortress
6090 Royal Knight's Castle
6079 Dark Forest Fortress
6097 Night Lord's Castle
Edit - I've changed all of these to clickable thumbnails just to make it easier. - Bruce
Edit - Thanks Bruce! I knew you were an Admin for a reason!
Please, if you reply, do not include the images. Thanks.
Oh, and for my money, it's the "Dark Forest Fortress", but that's just because I'm partial to Forestmen and never ended up getting any of the Dark Forest sets.

Re: Favorite classic Castle set from these nine.
Hmm, let's start with some criteria:
Sets built of bricks = better
Sets highly dependent on panel walls = worse
Sets highly dependent on CRAPP = worst (CRAPP = Crummy Ramp and Pit Plate) (though I'd say raised baseplates in general)
As far as figs go:
Outlaws = cool!
Knights = great, but not as great as outlaws
Willa the Witch = lamest fig ever
So, mixing those, I'd say my favorites tend to be the outlaw sets, and I'd go with:
Wolfpack Tower
Forestmen's River Fortress
Dark Forest Fortress
Then knights:
Black Falcon's Fortress
King's Castle
Knight's Castle
Royal Knight's Castle
Fire Breathing Fortress
Finally, the Willa effect:
Night Lord's Castle
That said, these are all awesome sets that I'd love to get. Even the Fright Knights have their place in the history of Classic-Castle. That set, for instance, has 48(!) 1X2 gray bricks, not to mention 27 black plus a few in other colors, and then numbers of 1x3, 1x4, 1x6 etc bricks. Also good numbers of plates, arches etc. How many sets today have that many basic bricks? And, as much as I bag on Willa and also the silly bat helms, Fright Knights sets are otherwise stocked with pretty useful fig parts, including my favorite torso:
Plus good old pieces like the bullet helm, the helm with neck protector, old short sword, old great sword, halberd, bow etc etc etc.

6074 Black Falcon's Fortress for me. I wanted that thing for over a decade until a (now ex)girlfriend gave me a box of Legos from her childhood and the entire set with instructions were buried inside.
but 6073 Knight's Castle (my first large castle set), and 6090 ( big!)

Re: Three favorite classic Castle sets from these 12
Well, Black Falcon Fortress is the only one I own, but I think The Royal Knight's Castle is my favourite. I've been wanting to get it for a while now.
Re: Three favorite classic Castle sets from these 12
3) Kings Castle
2) Black Falcons Fortress
1) Forestmen's River Fortress
I just love the forestmen and how their buildings are integrated into the trees. Brilliant!

I'd have to say that you hit it spot on for me.DaleDVM wrote:3) Kings Castle

3.Who doesn't like a plain and simple castle with no CRAPP? Perfect for Brikwars!
2.A nice, cute little castle, with some interesting roofing that sets it aside from other sets of it's age.
1.I agree along with many that forestmen is the best castle function. While simple castles never get old, they are just that: simple. It's really cool to see a theme that is not as cliche as some other sets, but not so outlandish as to lose the essence of Lego Castle. *Cough* Lotr *Cough*

For me it's;
1) 6077 - I simply love the Forestmen
2) 6080 - I always wanted it but only scored a copy within the last year or so
3) 6074 - even though the 6073 was the first castle I owned, I always wanted this one and it's an elegent set

Re: Three favorite classic Castle sets from these 12
I suppose this isn't that original, but I like the ones that I acquired at the time, which were the Forestman's River Crossing and the Black Monarch's Castle. Though in general I love the integration of trees and buildings, so I would like all the Forestman sets that incorporate trees and buildings. I love that whole tree house vibe. I really should get around to making one some day. Perhaps when the kids stop "helping" so much with every little thing I try to do...
