I like the new horses, too. I really hope that the bardings will still fit, that could be the only downside.

LEGO did a great job with this first wave. All the sets look good, but helms deep looks good even among those, so it looks really good

I am getting one of every set, and maybe multiples of helms deep!

These sets make me want to cry with happiness. The Helms Deep set is everything the ten year old me wanted lego castle sets to be and the poseable horse is just wonderful. I love it.

These are really great, and this gets me more exited to get these (altough wasn`t and still not about licenced fleshies :D ) but I have to say that I am going to buy many of these sets. The new horse is great and it seems that just the rear legs move.

yes this is a downside, barding maybe will fit when they are in "original" position but not in rearing state not when compering to old horse with barding and the images of the new horse rearing. This is a bit negative.
But the new troll looks great and all the new armor, helmets, shields and weapons :woo:

After seeing the pics from NY Toy Fair all I can say is:

O M F G

There is soo much to love in these sets but the killer has to be Helm's Deep. This may be in the running for BEST CASTLE EVER made by LEGO. Sure it's not complete and cute like older castles but the build looks fantastic with thick, curved walls and amazing details.

Other reasons why I love the new theme:
  • New horses - these look fantastic and the moving legs are long-overdue update
  • Rohirrim armour - especially Theodens helm. Finally some amazing Anglo-Saxon armies!
  • "Brick" bricks - OK, these were introduced in the City Forest sub-theme but now in grey!
  • Accessories - in general there are so many great new and returning bits of armour, weapons, hair and torsos
The only negative I see is the use of the fleshies but then I am in a minority on that question and resigned to their use in licensed sets. More stock for my "fleshie trade bag" for LUG meetings/BrickCon. 8)

But will current barding and head armour fit?! (Barding would obviously prevent the hinged action but the over all shape looks fairly similar.[/quote]
I don't think the head armor will fit it and I don't know if the Barding would work ether. ~KnightMan~

The minifigs are incredible! The parts selection (including new pieces) is marvelous! The price, though, is a bit high...

Some notes:
The Orc Forge set box is marked confidential, though I doubt that it's confidential anymore. But that's not the point. On that box, there are pictures of Fantasy Era trolls. How long ago did TLG begin planning this?

Also on the Orc Forge, there are Olive Green cheese slopes. I also spot at least two new pieces in this picture:

Helms Deep has some GREAT parts, including loads of hinges (yay!) and sand green bricks. The massive amount of LBG is also great, and there looks to be a plethera of great armor and weapons.

Moria: I'm not that excited about this one. The Cave Troll is decent I guess, and the obvious bonus is the minifigs. Parts aren't bad either.

Uruk-Hai army is great, it's got a nice bit of LBG and has some great army-building potential.

Weathertop has those spiral stairs in it. I also noticed that the black horse has red eyes, which limits who can ride it (what hero rides a red-eyed horse?)

Shelob Attacks is well designed. Gollum is interesting, and Shelob is wonderful!

Gandalf Arrives isn't anything special, but what can you expect from a small set?

The 'confidential' marking on the box indicate that that is an early mock-up of the set (the box art, not the set that was displayed in the LEGO booth at Toy Fair). Often times if they don't have new figs prepared in time, they will simply use old figs for the mock-ups. We've seen other instances in the past where either the box art or even the sets on display were not quite finished. For instance, if you check out the Marvel Super Heroes sets on display at Toy Fair, the figs are stickered, even though the final figs will be printed.

Thanks! I'd noticed (but forgot to mention) that some of the Orcs are stickered.

I have to say that I am completely blown away with all of these sets and I plan to get at least one of each set and maybe more.

The Helms Deep set is by far my favorite and I think is just awesome. I absolutely love all of the minifigs including the King Theoden and Hailmr. Please excuse me if I didn't spell those correctly.

The Mines of Moria I think was done perfectly for the scene it is depicting. I do not think Lego could have done better outside of producing a $100+ set which would have been just too much for this scene so, Lego really had to focus on making the set a compacted as possible while still making it neat.

The Weathertop set is amazing as well and I really like the way Lego did the new horses and the Nazgul. I also am really excited about the new One Ring piece which is going to be very useful for years to come.

The Uruk Hai Army set is really an extension of the Deeping Wall on Helms Deep so I think that it is just perfect as an army builder. Also love the all of the new Rohan helmets.

The Shelob Attacks set is a very nice set and I think that Shelob is Lego's best brick-built spider design so far. I also really like the Gollum figure in this set and I think they did him just perfect. I just hope that we get a smiling Gollum in a later wave.

The Gandalf Cart is also a very nice set and since it is the only set that comes with Gandalf and also comes with the new backpack piece and the new horse I will still be buying several of this set. I only wish that lego had put the One Ring in this set as well which would have made it a total bargain.

P.S. Is there some way I can change my username here? I know I was able to do it a couple of years ago on eurobricks.com so, I was wondering if I could do it here?

Hi all,
I looked with attention the hi-res pictures and I have to say that the sets look better and better.
The minifigs especially are nicely done: Theoden above all as other said.

I will buy for sure the Uruk-Kai army and I'd really like the Helm's deep. After having seen the way in which they realized the windows and the fact that there are no panels, I'm more and more convinced.
It's expensive so I'll wait for some discounts or maybe I'll buy it in the USA.

On the first prelim pictures it showed normal horses with Kingdoms head armor in Brown and some other colors but they must have decided to make a new horse instead which is too bad because the Kingdoms head armor in brown would have been nice. ~KnightMan~

A couple bothers:

The crenellations in the Uruk Hai Army wall section are two studs apart, while the one in Helms Deep with the drain are 1 stud apart. Why? These should be designed to go together seemlessly.

The sally port door is wood brown. It should be stone gray, like in the movie, and like how in real life they were designed to be undetectable by the attacking troops. Should have been in gray, or just a secret door wall section.

Wow... I have to officially come back to buying more Legos after a two year hiatus. Although I have been waiting for Lego LOTRO, the sets seem too childish for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, I'm buying all of them and then some. But the overall result is very much like Harry Potter: comercialized and all of them look like incomplete sets. Meh, well, I am a grown man still loving Lego, what should I expect?!
