One more update to this thread, I finally managed to complete the castle! :) In the end I was missing only 20+ bricks that I got around to acquiring recently and putting on those finishing touches. For a few pics see here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/201 ... ands-down/ Earlier stories are here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/cat ... ts-castle/

Again, a big thank you for the warm welcome and all the encouragement here, guys. Classic-Castle and Eurobricks have been a major source of inspiration. I look forward to following Classic-Castle in other ways now.

Your blog is very well written and inspiring to see you make memories with your son. I particularly like how you noted you weren't just going to dump the bricks out and let him take them. The context of this rebuild is touching.

A heartfelt congratulations, you deserve it for all the time and effort you placed in this project :)

When I saw the pictures I wondered what the big deal was about, it looks like the original set! Great job recreating it, love the old-style castles from back in the day. I'm sure your son will enjoy playing with this immensely. :)

Thanks, Aeridian! :) Indeed normally there wouldn't be anything special about the 6080 King's Castle (other than a very special set!), but I kind of took the long route...

Hi guys! One more note on this project, in case someone is interested.

This Christmas my son finally received the castle and we had a blast building it! In the end it wasn't too hard, nor was it too old - in fact, the different build and the different style of the old knights were quite appreciated by both my son and myself. For me, it also felt good to finally get to build the castle like a set, not like an on-going collection project. Good times! :)

It was great to see my son immediately combine the "old castle" into his play with newer LEGO elements, such as attacking the castle with Chigorzan and LEGO Star Wars AT-TE (another great, great build by the way). Here were the Lion Knight's of yore (successfully) fighting enemies from - literally - and time and a galaxy far, far away...

Thanks!

No plans for a next project (although I covered some ideas in a blog post in September http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/201 ... -unlocked/).

I have recently mostly built some modern Chima and Ninjago sets with my son. I get some sporadic ideas for own projects all the time, LEGO is addictive that way, but nothing concrete at least yet. :)
